Astaro 7.011 fails on Dell r200

hi

we tried to install astaor on a dell r200, whitout success. Becuase astaro just says "installation failed" we don't know why it fails. so it must be disks or cdrom. But the message is not really usefull, why does astaro hide these errors?!

it is booting and everything works fine until you want to install. so my question is on what is astaro based? cent os 5 works fine, debian 4 works fine, astaro doesn't.

I also experienced some problems in relation to installing a newer version of asg on a normal pc. It worked for me to download an old version (7.003) install it (which worked without any problems) and then update that box.

Maybe this would be a solution for you.

Post your hardware exactly, please. HD, RAM, etc. It could be a corrupted HD, try to take a better "newer" [;)] one.

Yes, post your exact configuration, number of hard drives and cdroms, etc. There should only be 1 Hard Drive and 1 CDROM drive connected in the system, other wise you will get failures.

also tried with single harddisk. no success. seems to me that the harddisk can not be found (driver problem?)

I have the same problem with the installation an the ASG V7.103 It is a problem of the DELL CD-Rom.
Now I use a external USB CD-ROM and boot from USB-CD-ROM. It works! So could install the system. Perhaps its also works with a bootable USB-Stick.

Hmm, do these new Dell R200s use SATA CD/DVD drives? If so, that's likely the issue, Astaro has old drivers which probably don't support the SATA controller.

Sometimes the BIOS will let you put the SATA controller into some sort of IDE compatibility mode, can you look for that option?
