Blank Screen - Pulling My Hair OUT!!!

Try changing the LBA options in the BIOS, or try a Classic or NOACPI install.
Also, make sure your BIOS is up to date.

Which version of Astaro were you trying to install?

I have changed the Hard drive settings to LBA / Normal and LBA /Auto and re-installed both times.  Still get the blank screen and Error:15 File Not Found.  Tried Classic installed as it claims that my bios does not support APIC.  However I have installed a few different firewalls and none of them had this problem.

I thought the classic was with NOACPI.  It puts the command ACPI=off in the kernel for me.  So I assume it is working.

I am trying to install ASG V7.011-071015-1.

I have even looked at ALT+F1 / F2 / F3 /F4 and it says that it cannot read some files to the drive however it writes other files.

As I have said, I have tried many different versions of linux on this drive and all work.  3 Different versions of Windows and they all work.  I have tested the HDD and the IDE Controller and all work fine.  I have checked the memory on the computer and all pass fine.

I am starting to think that I would probably be better off with IPCOP which I dont really want to use but at least it works on my computer [:(]

Did you switch the drives prior to the Untangle install?  I tried Untangle and it failed as well, which has diminished my hopes of making this machine work.  

I'd be willing to go this one more step if I thought it might work,  otherwise, I will try switcing machines which will be a huge pia but should work.

I finally got it to boot.  Try to go to the web interface get as far as logging in and accepting the secure certificate but then blank page.

This software seems to be more hassle than what its worth.

Its really slow booting too... Other distros boot in approx 1 / 2 mins.

I quit trying on the Compaq with the AMD chip.  I stole my 7y/o 's old Sony Vaio that has a Pentium, 512, plenty of disk space.  

Previously when I tried the install it would only detect one of the NICs - the second one that I added.  It would not detect the one on the motherboard.  Perhaps that was linked to my overall problem.

This time, it detected all the hardware correctly but when I hit install, it instantly failed.  I am now trying to killdisk the drive, thenI will try the install without any garbage.  

We'll see.

To whom it may concern: The Vaio had a CD Rom drive and a DVD/CD - RW Drive.  The CD was non working, so I removed it.  Now that I have removed it from its slave position - the install will proceed.  

I don't understand it - but perhaps it makes sense to someone reading this.

It looks like we're making some progress, albeit with a fair amount of hassle. 

Remember if you have a NIC that is not being seen by Astaro, you may wish to add in a NIC on a PCI/PCI-X/PCIe card if you have one sitting around. And then you can spend more time later looking into the drivers for the non-recognized NIC.

Loaded ok.
Boot up went ok - one 'failed' message that went by too fast to see what it was.  However, it then stopped loading and gave me this message:

"ngetty FATAL: SLO cannot get terminal line dev=ttySLO, exiting
INIT: Id "s0" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes"

Suggestions?

I rebooted to watch more closely - this error comes after it seems to require a login/pw that I have not set up and is not supplied.  When it can't fill in that field on its own, it gives this error.

Once I plugged in a WORKING ethernet cable I was able to reach the admin interface and fix the problem.  

It looks like I am on to the challenge of SETUP.  I will be looking for user tips on this in the forum.

I actually got V7.04 working on my computer.  Well to say it booted and gave me the 5 beeps to say that it was ready.  However, it would not let me into the interface at all.  I download the virtual appliance and ran it in vmware works like a charm.

I have downloaded V7.1 and will try that on the computer and see if it works.  If it does not, I will also try VMWARE ESX server and see it working on that [:)]

A few questions before you venture too far into running Astaro on a virtual machine:

1) When you try to ping the machine, I presume that it did ping?
2) When you pointed your browser at the machine at did the usual:

https://machineip:4444

I am presuming the Astaro login page appeared?

Please let us know a bit more detail. Astaro will run a lot better on physical hardware, so if there is a way to get that going, it may be worthwhile.

It would not let me get to the web interface on the computer itself not from the Virtual Machine.  Virtual Machine runs fine with no probs.

Yes I could Ping the computer and when I went to https://IP:4444 I just got a blank page.

I logged in as root and tried service webconfig restart but still nothing.  Even tried starting httpd but still blank page.

But I am going to try with 7.1 today and see if that works [:)]
