Cable Modem state-Down, link-Up

Hello Everyone.

I've gone through the wizard configuration for my home network.  I basically have two PCs that are connected to a Gigabit switch.  The ASG is also connected to the switch through the eth0 (internal) NIC.  The ASG's eth1 NIC is connected directly to my cable modem.  

The wizard seemed to have correctly set up my permissions, NAT, filters, etc.  The only problem now is that I can't communicate to the internet.  Under Network interfaces, my eth1 adapter shows that the Cable Modem's link is UP, but the state is DOWN.

I've tried resetting my modem a few times, double-checked the cable, etc.  What else do I have to do to make this work?  Do I have to call in to my ISP?

    Time Warner Cable is the ISP.  Everything is always DHCP through them.  When I select cable modem for the type of connection, DHCP is enabled by default.  Is there another filter setting I'm missing somewhere?

    I used to be on TWC here (dumped them because of very flaky service) at home... I know you've said you've done this, but try powering off the cable modem, powering it back on, then rebooting the Astaro; TWC sets these Cable Modems to bind themselves to one client MAC address, the first one to contact it after it finishes booting up... the modems have to be powered off and back on to bind to a new one (the eth1 on your Astaro, in this case).  if that doesn't work, you've got me... have you tried reloading it, maybe tried a different NIC?

    Alright. I turned the modem off, then turned the modem on, rebooted the ASG, and the modem state was still DOWN, link was UP.  Then I tried turning the modem off, rebooting the ASG, then turning the modem back on, and there was no change in status.

    I've been currently using a belkin wireless router for my firewall.  It has no problem picking up the signal from the modem.  I would just rather use the ASG for all the other bells and whistles.  Is there a way I can put the router inbetween the ASG and the modem (disabling NAT in the router of course)?  Right now, the router is doing its own DHCP to the network computers.  How would I configure my ASG "External" NIC to plug into the router and be recognized properly?

    Any feedback is appreciated.

    I've often had issues on Time Warner Cable when switching out the computer/device plugged into the cable modem.

    Here's what I'd try:

    1. Power off cable modem
    2. Disable External interface on Astaro
    3. Wait 15 minutes
    4. Power on cable modem
    5. Enable External interface on Astaro

    I've often had cases where the thing is just damn reluctant to hand out a new IP to a different MAC address. Waiting 15 minutes seems to get things going most of the time.

    Tried everything, and even waited longer than 15 minutes.  Same problem unfortunately.  I wonder if there's a way to login to the modem and force it to use a certain MAC address.

    Any other thoughts?

    Hmm, I'm out of ideas, then. I haven't actually tried Astaro at home on my cable modem, but I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work. Are you able to get any other computer connected to the cable modem?

    Neither of my pc's can see beyond the ASG when I have the modem setup on the external network.  Would anyone at time warner be able to send a command to flush the regular MAC address?

    No, I mean to directly connect one of your PCs to the cable modem (make sure you have firewall enabled on them).

    TWC should be able to help flush the MAC address as well.
