Dashboard Reporting Incorrect Ram

This may be a stupid question but can someone tell me why astaro reports 9mb less ram on the dashboard than is installed...

512 mb ram
16 shared to video
487 reported

I tried it in a vm setting it to 512 ram and it reported it as 503...

    The "missing memory" is used for your shared memory video card.... It's common to see memory reported in this way on most appliances, etc. as they don't use separate video memory.  I do often go in the BIOS on such machines and reduce the shared video memory to minimum size, who needs 1000's of colors when it's just used to drive a console connection?

    Sorry you misunderstood me... I have the Bios Set to share only 16 mb ram and its showing 25 mb less which is 9mb less than its suppose to be I also tried astaro on my highend machine in a virtual machine set to 512mb ram and it showed 503 ram...

    Or am I misunderstanding you and your saying astaro somehow automatically shares an extra 9mb off the ram no matter what I do?

    Just re-read your post "appliances" didnt register with me... so I guess astaro does share an extra 9mb it was just driving me nuts because I cant find anything about it anywhere.

    It may not be reporting some of the RAM linux uses for caching... I wouldn't be concerned about it.

    That could be the Linux kernel RAM, which sometimes isn't counted in the total RAM.

    ASG120 7.x with 512M -> 487MB
    ASG220 7.x with 512M -> 503MB
    VM 7.x with 512M -> 503MB
    looks like a Bug in Bios of ASG110/120.

    Does the video card in the 110 use shared memory?

    It uses onboard Video, and yes, it is shared memory.
