Booting Astaro Problem

    This is a new VMware Server install. I opened the virtual machine after I installed VMware server and this was as far as it got.

    Wierd--I've setup several VMWare instances for customers and for lab use, and have never seen this.  What version of VMWare are you using (workstation, player, server, ESX -- version number)... All my deployments have been on VMWare Server 1.03 / 1.04 on top of OpenSUSE 10.2, with the exception of one site that is running VMWare Server 1.03 on top of Window Server 2003 SP2.

    Only difference I can see so far is that all the platforms I've deployed VMWare Server and Astaro on are 32 bit platforms... perhaps that has something to do with it?

    I have the same problem, sometimes when I reboot my ASG.
    Try clicking in the console when you start the VM and your ASG will boot, too [:)]

    I´m a VCP but didn´t figured out the problem yet.

    I've been attempting to redownload the VA. So far I've been able to download 283 MB of the 911MB. I'm often getting 0.0 KB/s from Astaro's FTP.
    I'm using GetRight due to the number of restarts which has happened. It stopped and restarted over 155 times since I started trying to download it. At this rate it will be next tuesday before I finish downloading the VA.


    As for the current version, I always click inside the VMware while attempting to run it. THe only difference with VMware Server is, I do not have VMware Tools installed. Could this be a problem and where can I get the tools from?

    I believe my support ran out a few days ago. Being a home user I was entitled to 30 days of support. I spent most of those 30 days downloading the original versions.

    Yeah, it'd be nice if Astaro provided torrents for any file larger than 50 MB or so, especially for anything larger than a couple hundred MB.

    It's been a while now, I'm 55% done with 7.004. 303 restarts... curent average speed 0.7k/sec

    Here's the deal, under VMplayer, there was no CD boot option. Under VMware Server, you have boot options in the bios. The bios was set to boot to CD first. Well my settings for CD was auto detect. Low and behold I have Alcohol 52% emulating ASG 7.004 ISO. So when trying to load VA ASG my ASG 7.004 ISO was attempting to install when it was already installed.

    Apparently under openSUSE 10.2 it was setup to not boot to CD. So now I have a functioning Astaro again.

    So let this be a lesson for anyone emulating an ISO, and trying to run VMWares. Check to make sure you are not booting to CD unless you really want to. This little oversight happened because when I reboot the Host, there is no Virtual CD ISO of ASG 7.004, so I don't see that as the problem. I'm just glad that the problem is solved and that I can now get back to learning all about Astaro.

    Not laughing, but at least we know there was a reasonable resolution to the problem.. I strip off the CD and Floppy as VMWare options for ASG instances, I guess that's why I never saw this problem.
