System offline after upgrade to 7.006

Hello Folks,

just wanted to let you know that I just remotely updated an astaro box from 7.005 to 7.006. Update process went smoothly but after the reboot I lost the box. I will have to pay my customer a visit first time tomorrow morning.
Maybe it was just a script bug causing the system to shut down instead rebooting or something. Maybe something went really wrong and I have to reinstall everything tomorrow...
I don't know yet but I promise I will tell you :-)

At least as far as I am concerned, I will not update the other boxes remotely...

All the best,

DiePlage

  • Ok...where is v7.006?  Can I manually download?

or wait for the ASG to automatically download it...

  • In my experience, sometimes up2dates bring boxes down for up to 5mins afterwards, and then they normally come back up.

My v7 test box that I uploaded the update manually on worked fine.

I did notice that it fscked the filesystems after rebooting (said it had been nearly 180 days since the last fsck) which caused the reboot to take a bit longer than normal.

Looking at the ext3 partition settings it seems that all filesystems are scheduled for fscks after 180 days have passed since the last update, or 26 +- 6 mounts (reboots).

It would be very interesting to see why the machine has not come back online normally after this update.
  • I guess I spoke too soon.
I installed the update, and my system's been offline since [:(]
It finished the update over 40mins ago.

  • Hey Barry, what's the console show?  can you log in on the console and see what's  going on?  I've updated several units, including (arguably the slowest platform around) an ASG 110 -- and it was back up in 10 minutes.

  • Bruce, I'll check when I get home.
I was brave and tried to do the upgrade remotely [:P]

  • OK... just got home... Astaro was sitting there with this at the bottom of the screen:

    :: Restarting the system done
Master Resource Control: runlevel 6 has been reached
Failed services in runlevel 6: pop3
INIT: no more processes left in this runlevel

FWIW, I'm not using the pop3 proxy.

  • Hi there all,

this update can indeed take a bit longer, for one part due to the fsck and on the other part due to database upgrade/checking which we due once after the up2date reboot.
But in most cases the device is rebooted and running, just webadmin will take a bit longer to be available, ssh will be accessible.

Barry, currently i don't know what happened to the pop3 proxy stoping, i will forward it to our QA team.

    thanks for the information.
    regards
    Gert
  • So did rebooting it square it away?

  • Yes, it's been OK since I manually rebooted.

I suppose I should try a reboot from the webmin and see if that still works.
