After up2date memory usage dropped 20%

One of the packages below caused my memory usage to drop by approx 20%. Normally my ASG runs around the 65% peaking at 75%, but dropped to 45% and is currently sitting at 54%. No reboots/power failures. Normaly after a memory usage drop, it grows quickly when the internet is used.

Strange behavior.

    Doesn't that maybe coincide with the system up2date 7.005? There were some huge improvements regarding memory consumption in that up2date package - all customers should have a visible memory usage drop after that up2date.

    why should it suddenly kick in now? I have been running v7.005 since beta and with a modified kernel (provided by Astaro).

    actually if linux is using 95% of ram it's ok as that's how linux works.  Linux manages memory much better than winders.  The big thing is swap..if you are digging into swap a ton then you have problems..although with astaro it's more their squid and swap mistunings that nail them there.

    memory usage isn't a great problem for me, I just put in extra if the need arises, which shouldn't happen now v7 has settled down a lot.
    Swap is about 10mb and sits there quite happily until something runs wild. Then I know I have problem, which a reboot usually rectifies.

    I was raising an issue where it suddenly dropped significantly after a virus/scan update. Why?

    Hi Ian, 

    spamassassin as our spam engine makes up a great part of the memory usage.
    The amount of patterns loaded in the engine changes the ram usage dramatically. 
    In one of the last spam rule updates we have compacted the spam pattern, removed old rules, made checks smarter so we needed less rules and so on.

    This might have helped lowering mem usage.

    By the way, have you reinstalled the final 7.005 on top of the beta? If not, i would strongly recommend that, as there were some important fixes during beta time.

    I have installed the GA version of v7.005. with a test kernel.
