Hi all,
I'm new to Astaro, so would appreciate your help. I've searched the forums and can't find the solution to my problem:
I have installed Astrao 7.003, still on the 30-day unlimited license. I'm using an Actiontec GT-701 DSL modem/gateway. Currently, I have the DSL modem still in normal mode, and I have configured the ASG such that the external interface is a Ethernet standard with 10.0.0.1/8, GW 10.0.0.254 (modem IP). Everything works great.
However, I think it's better to use Bridged mode on the modem, right? This will allow me better performance and better management? (Right now the firewall on the modem can't be specifically configured, only 3 preset profiles are available. Plus, routing and ip forwarding features are not good.)
Right now I have a "semi-static" IP from my provider (Qwest.net). Normal setup when using the modem is to use PPPoA and DHCP for the IP, then the provider always assigns 70.58.***.*** to me (this is the way they handle their single static IP assignments).
So, with ASG, I put the modem in RFC 1483 Transparent Bridging mode, then set the external interface on the ASG to DSL (PPPOA/PPTP) with:
Default GW: Checked
Modem IP: blank (this is the way to specify that it should pull the IP from the provider??)
NIC Address: 10.0.0.1/8
Ping address: pingable DNS server from provider
Username/Password: same as I would set in the modem
Uplink failover: Off
Daily reconnect: Never
MTU: 1500
However, when I do this, the interface doesn't work. Both the State and Link status shows as Down, and I can't even connect back to the DSL modem (10.0.0.254). Here's the log for PPPoA (excerpt):
2007:05:06-10:07:19 (none) pppoa-sh: pptpc[6055] pppd: : call REF_AEBZlyiZZT ipparam eth1#REF_AEBZlyiZZT failed

If I let it keep running, the same error repeats over and over. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong??
Thanks in advance!
