Best hardware for custom-made V7 appliance / blade-server

I currently use a lot of the Compaq DL360 servers for this and they seem to be more than adequate.  Pair of 36 or 72G drives with 512-1G ram.  Used ones can be picked up for under $500 at times.  I'm running a G1 and a G3 version of them for testing.  

I had issues with the version 7 beta not running on them, but that resolved with the 7.001 release.

Does anyone know whether V7 supports this barebone (nVidia Crush 51PV / MCP51)?

The hardware-compatibility-list seems to be quite outdated...

I believe together with a 1,2Ghz CPU, 80GB SATA2, 512 MB RAM and 2 additional PCI NICs, this would make a nice platform for about 20-40 users...

Since lots of people are looking for low power hardware for Astaro appliances, here is what worked and what does not work for me.

System #1 - My oldest Mini-ITX system, works with V5 only.  A little slow to load, but is super quiet and draws little power.  This system has been running for 2 years without a hitch, running Packet filters, multiple IPSEC VPN tunnels and HTTP proxy with content filtering.
*** But this mobo does not work with V6 or V7, won't load.

Systems #2, 3, & 4 (3 identical)

Been running non-stop V6 (6.303 current) for 2 years, no issues
Only issue was fan noise which was resolved with different fan power connectors from Iron Systems to slow the fans down for a device not mounted in a server room that made too much noise.

In trying to re-use the Morex 3677 case, I purchased MSI MS-9802 CX700 (C7 Esther) mobo,  with Dual LAN connections and 1gb RAM, 80GB SATA 5400 RPM drive.  This system loads V6 and V7 much faster, but after hardware detection it did not detect the On Board NIC cards. This MOBO has SATA connections and a single IDE for CDROM.

Conclusion: It seems the DUAL LAN MOBOs are a limited commodity, so I think I will scrap the MOREX 3677 case and buy a case that allows PCI NIC cards to be inserted so I don't need to rely on a DUAL LAN Mobo. I will post results of V6 and V7 on this C7 mobo later, if the speed of the installation compare to the M10000 is any indication of the processor, this C7 will be much faster than the old VIA ASL devices.

We use a SHUTTLE PC - Very quiet, and room for PCI NIC card We run VMWARE on it and run VM ASG 7.11 Now 7 BETA and a VM WIN2K3 server - by running VMWARE there are no NIC issues !

Thanks.  I was actually using a Shuttle as my Astaro machine, but I'm trying to cut down on power usage even more.  Trying to stick with mobile cpus or the Via chips.  M old Shuttle system is a P4 2.4, so it's very much *not* power efficient.  [:)]   I actually do have a full Via Epia system that I had intended to use as an Astaro machine, but it turns out the built-in ethernet on the motherboard isn't recognized.  Figure my only option there is to find a miniITX case that'll hold my existing Via system and allow for a pci card (so I put a dual-eth card in it).

I am using the Asus Barebone (ASUS P3-PH4C) with D-link 530 and 560 cards and it is near silent and works well with the 7.011 release.  Great options for CPU's, just make sure and get a IDE hard drive.
