I remember reading about this platform a while ago and it looks like its finally available in development form. Would you guys ever consider supporting this platform for your appliances?
Here's the link from theinquirer.net
PA Semi Releases its chip
And here's more technical info from over a year ago:
PA Semi Power chips are full of eastern promise
The platform is released with Linux 2.6.17 and 2.6.18.
A brief rundown shows that built into the chip it has:
2 64bit Power PC processors
2 DDR2 1066 controllers
8 PCIe controllers 1-16 lanes each
Encryption engine supporting 10Gbs bulk encryption
TCP/IP offload engine
2 10GbE controllers
4 GbE controllers
All of this while only using 13 watts...
This looks like a recipe for screaming fast network appliance, plus you wouldn't have to worry about cooling issues!
Just a heads up for you guys in case you haven't already heard about these guys. I'm sure your competition will pick up it as well.
