did you disabled the "Limit notifications" under Management » Notifications?
On what kind of hardware did this happen?

No, I had not disabled the limit notifications.

Hardware was AMD AM2 Dual Core 3500+ with 2GB of RAM and 80GB Raptor hard disk... Should be plenty especially given this is not yet a production machine.

I will grab logs.  Dont think I touched the limit notification settings.

The install never goes through.  so i am stuck at 7.000.  Any other way to install htis update except the web interface?

ah..there it went.  very very slow to execute.
