7.001 Argh!

That's gotta suck.   Mine went perfect, although I admit was expecting something like what you describe!

my status froze at 67%.  left it 1 hour still frozen
reset the box, it said it was on 7001 and been fine ever since.
I did not get the messages but i am not surprised.  It does like communicating a lot..

Hmm.. does not look good for us that do remote support of these boxes.  A remote box that hangs during an upgrade would be a VERY bad look!

I have built v7 on 2 different boxes (something to do) and found the freeze is only happens if you click on the watch the up2date happen button. Ignore that little useless function and it seems to work okay, with maybe a drop of the wemadmin connection and a restart of the connection.

My builds are only over my local LAN though, not a remote internet connection. I suppose for the fun of it I could always make one up, there is enough networking spares lying around.

My point is that if a "remote" box crashes and needs to be hard-reset during up2date, there may be no one on-site to do that.  If it's just a case of not watching the update, that's fine!

The point is, that this release just can't be considered stable yet.
I've wasted some time already with the installation until I recognized that only one cd-rom drive seems to be allowed ...

Second really annoying thing was, that I had disconnects of almost every protocoll (http, ssh, rdp, ica) sporadically. IPS itself was disabled, but P2P-blocking was enabled, which dropped a hell of a lot packets wrongly ..
.. so I think we have to wait some time until we can use this for our customers .. especially because the v6 backup import will not be available before something around march 2007 (http://up2date.astaro.com/2007/01/asg_v7_ga.html).

please check your up2date.log for additional information about the installation of the up2date package. If the package was successfully installed you can see that clearly in the log. If not, you can see what the problem was. I think it's rather unprofessional to cry "crashing up2date" just because of a (maybe hanging?) progress file/bar without ever checking real logs.

If the system comes up with 7.001 everything is fine. The up2date will NOT increase the version if even the slightest error occurs during package installation.

Regarding the massive spamming - this should not happen if you do not manually disable the "limit notifications" switch. And even if you did disable this, the selfmonitor check for the sockd proxy is only made every 5 seconds with a fail threshold of 3, so mails wont be sent faster than every 15 seconds, so it takes a while to generate 250 mails. You can see that behaviour in the selfmon.log file; generated notifications can be seen in the notifier.log. Maybe those notifications were generated earlier but could not be delivered due to some other problem? Sounds more like a smtp queue run to me.

Andreas, you raise some good points.  It highlights the need to check logs and confirm behaviour before crying foul.  However, my impression of the up2date crash from Simon and Mike is that the system froze, not that the status bar froze.

I think you are right about the 250 mails though, sounds like the smtp queue probably restarted and ran through.  That highlights another bug though: you can't get to the queued mails to force smtp connection, or check why they are queued (without reading the logs to see why the last queue run failed).

I will grab logs.  Dont think I touched the limit notification settings.

The install never goes through.  so i am stuck at 7.000.  Any other way to install htis update except the web interface?
