low values on network graphs

My network graphs show traffic levels far below the actual levels. For two physical ports that are in bridge mode, the graph shows 1 to 10kbps while mrtg on the upstream router shows 200 to 3500kbps which I believe to be reasonably accurate.

Astaro support says this is normal. Anyone else seen this? Why would it be 'normal'?

It may be because the ASL graphs show 5min average levels... Unsure.

I *know* my speed goes up to 8mbps, (coz my torrent client shows it) but ASL rarely shows the speed in its graph above 4-5mbps. I think it's to do with averaging.

Simon is correct, it's because of averaging. If you sustain high bandwidth for an extended period of time, it does plot as expected.

I think it's something other than averaging because my router MRTG runs 30 minute and 2 hour averages. The difference between mrtg and astaro is quite large.

Ah, totally missed that you are graphing traffic with MRTG and comparing it to Astaro's charts. I'm not sure what the problem is, then, I use cacti (which uses mrtg) to plot traffic on my firewalls and they match up with the firewall exactly.
