Unencrypting Backups

Hi, Does anyone know a way to unencrypt the backup files so you can view the settings?

I need to know how the eth ports are setup but cant view the contents!!

    Did you set it to encrypt them?

    If not, they are BZipped TAR files.
    (you need bunzip/bunzip2 and tar to extract)

    If they are encrypted, install ASL on a spare machine, restore the backup (assuming you remember the password), and then backup again without the encryption.

    Yes they are encrypted. I dont have a problem with this I was just enquiring in case I ever do. I can think of a situation where using a spare machine wont help you ie- you didnt create the config and dont know the eth settings so do not know which is local lan port thus making it tricky to access the box yes I know you could just try each port but if you could examine the backup first it would save time. However its not a problem at present just curious

    As far as the NICs go, if you get the MAC addresses off of the NICs, then it is easy to figure out which is which. (ifconfig on the console)
