ASL V 5.208 4 nics -hw problem ???-

hi,
i need to install 4 PCI nics ( 3com 905cx ) on a IBM xseries 200 but something goes wrong...
no hardware conflict was detected but 2 of the 4 nics are sharing the same IRQ ( irq10 ); if i try to enable both this interfaces one of them stop responding.

any one knows about any conflict / problem in this configuration ?

In a 3 nics configuration everything works; changing the interface with another brand/model didn't solve this problem.

You might try NOAPCI and/or NOAPIC during installation.

Also, is there a newer BIOS for your system?

If you have more slots, try moving the cards around.

I've had good luck with up to 5 Intel nics (in a PIII system).

In theory, with PCI 2.1 and above, IRQ sharing _shouldn't_ be a problem. Motherboard and ALL PCI cards must be 2.1 or better.

Did you check BIOS settings, maybe reserved IRQs ?
Disabled unneded features (Audio, serial, USB etc.)
Latest BIOS installed ?

all bios unneeded feature disabled; no reserved irqs.

i'm looking for a bios update but specifications don't seems to solve irq conflict problem or bus master optimization.

Hi Hellen

Did you try the classic installation ?
if you boot from CD you have to type after boot: classic

problem solved with another NIC ( 3com 905c ); the firewall was already installed and the 4th adapter was added on a second time.
