PRoblem installing 6.0

Im trying to install ASL 6 with a bootable cd-rom image.

It boots and presents me with the install alternatives. Whatever I choose here I get the same problem. It initiates unpacking of the image or something with dots on the screen representing progress. After about 5-6 rows of these dots it displays the message "Ready." and then reboots.

Back to square one.

Any ideas?

I seem to be having a similar problem on a known good Intel i810 board. I posted about it here

I tested the memory with memtest so np there.
Ive been running Smoothwall and Monowall on this machine with no problems.

My guess was that it reboots just as the installer is about to unpack the image. I therefore tried two hardrives but no luck there.

It seems to be the same problem indeed, Barry.

I tried all the alterntives but no luck, som Im giving up on this and continue to run monowall

For the record, can you post what motherboard, chipset, and CPU you're using?

Its a Compaq Presario 5441. I think it has a 233 or 400 Mhz AMD K6-2. Yes I know what u thinking its crap but hey it works and its small [:)]

OK... that CPU probably isn't supported in ASL 6 (6 requires real 686 support). However, I'm not that familiar with the K6 processors so I could be wrong.

I think version 5 should work fine, but the web interface will be a little slow.

v5 should be supported for another year at least.

I see the CPU must be the problem then. Whats the difference between 5 & 6? I know prolly alot of stuff but whats the big picture?

The web interface in 6 seems much faster on PIII hardware (5 is kind of slow).

New features include transparent (bridged) mode, SIP proxy, ...

There is a "what's new in ASL 6" PDF at

The file seems to be missing the .PDF extension... you might need to save it and rename it.
