Serial Attached SCSI Drives?

Has anyone used the new SAS drives?  Serial Attached SCSI .  http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0BRZ/is_6_23/ai_105884200
Apparently they have 3 GB of bandwidth, about 10 times faster than parallel SCSI drives, yet they don't cost too much more.  SAS is supposed to be to SCSI what SATA is to ATA.  Since v 6 now supports SATA, and the two formats are similar (similar connectors) I was hoping v 6 might also support SAS.  We are about to order a new server to run v 6 and it would be great to be able to get the best equipment for near the same price as buying old technology.

    After reading the article again, I noticed this:
    3.0Gb/s (300MB/s) so it is not faster than an Ultra SCSI 320 MB.
    One b is small and one B is capital.  Is one Bits and the other Bytes?  Wouldn't 300 Mbytes x 8 = 2400 Mbits or 2.4 Gigabits instead of 3.0 Gigabits?  Thanks.

    Serial connection are always expressed in bit/s (=b/s, lower case b) whereas parallel connections are expressed in bytes/s (=B/s, upper case B).
    3Gb/s matches 375MB/s. Assuming your figures are correct, SAS is faster than parallel SCSI but:
    1) I have never seen such a fast disk, except from a RAID
    2) I hardly believe you need those speeds using ASL.

    And I don't know of SAS is supported, but you can always look into the Hardware Compatibility List.

    I agree with everything you wrote, my question is, in the article that I posted the link for, it says that the speed of SAS is:   "3.0Gb/s (300MB/s)" as if they were equal.
    I didn't think that those two were equal, and your math fits mine in saying that it doesn't.  From what else I've read, I think that it runs at 300MB/s, so the 3.0 Gb/s figure in the article would be the one that does not fit.
         You may be right that Astaro does not need such a fast drive, but since we're about to buy a new server and the costs between SCSI and SAS are so similar, what computer geek wouldn't prefer the faster drive?
         I'll be getting a SAS server anyways to replace our Web Server.  It will take up to a month to order and get in.  I will try Astaro on it first and let you guys kow if it worked.
