astaro is getting to bloated

Astaro seems like its getting to heavy. What I mean by that is I loaded up v5 on a p3 1 gigahertz with 512 ram. I access the webgui and the system seemed rather sluggish. I remember loading asl version 4 on a p2 233 with 128 megs of ram and it was fast as hell. At this pace if one decided to deploy astaro in a business environment you might as well get a box with dual zeons and 3 to 4 gigs of ram. IMO the astaro developers need to trim the product down or they need to start releasing multiple products and stop trying to put everything in one product.

    The problem is the webmin is quite slow at times on even a PIII, even with most features disabled and very little bandwidth in use.
    (whereas it was much faster in 3.x and 4.x on slower hardware)

    I'm running ASL 6 beta on a puny VIA EPIA board with 256MB ram.  Seems to run fine.

    CPU usage is way under 1

    my box has 0.3-0.5 if some traffic occurs. also dropded packets, IDS rules wich will be active and so on. i'm realy happy, but i will not upgrade to V6 (i think like that, at the moment, it can change)

    you're right. webmin is slow as hell. And this is something what makes you aggressvie, while you configure asl on such machines.

    Hi,

    yes compared to other devices, eg. like ingate or fortigate, the gui is a little slow. 
    But remember that with all those new features the config_db gets bigger and bigger, and so of course takes a little longer to query. 

    Just to compare. On a P4 System 2.8 with 1 Gig RAM it takes 4 seconds to open the IPS-Rules page (large info base).

    I must admit to having similar slowness issues and frustration with WebAdmin on v5.x
    Last week I updated to v6.001 and in my case I have noticed a significant speed increase in WebAdmin. Accessing WebAdmin pages is now easily twice as fast. Maybe it's just me but that is the very first thing I noticed after doing the upgrade.   [:)]
    I am running a PIII 866 with 512Mb RAM, the same config as I had in v5.x

    As to ASL being bloatware - As a home user I find it great to have all that I need in one box.

    I had some issues with freezing screens while using Webadmin with IE. Possibly same issue as discussed here.

    After upgrading to V6 (same machine, 450 MHz, 256 MB RAM) WebAdmin was generally faster and there is a feeling that V6 generally is faster than V5 on my machine aswell.
