DSL Connection/Static IP's

Yes, setup the modem in bridge mode.

You probably have a primary IP assigned by the ISP?  Use that in the interface dialog.  You could also try setting them to auto-assign as usually the ISP will auto-assign a static anyway.

Forget about the other IP addresses you have been assigned for the time being.  Get the PPPoA up first.  (Add the other IP's as additional IP's on the interface AFTER you have it setup.)

By 'router address' I assume you mean default gateway.

Just an addition to Simon's answer:

I think you even do not need to add the alias interfaces. Just create some DNATs to redirect the packets with the different destination IPs you bought to the corresponding server.

Thanks for the views after reading abit more i have found the,

Modem IP Address i think astaro is after is the IP hardwired to the router eg 192.168.1.1
therefore the NIC ip will be 192.168.1.2 am i correct in saying this.

The router IP i refered to is the IP my ISP gave me as my main Modem/Router IP.

If i select the type PPPoE it connects no problems but i cant seem to get it too connect with PPPoA like it should.

What is the difference between the PPPoA and PPPoE will using PPPoE be fine? I would still rather get PPPoA working if possible.

You need to talk to your dsl provider and ask them what they use.  Considering the fact you can connect using pppoe and not pppoa Ii am betting they use ppoe.  You cannot connect with PPPOA to a provider running PPPOE and vice versa unless the provider runs both.  I have not heard of a provider running both yet.

Using just the modem attached to a computer it works fine with PPPoA, I was told that if i used PPPoE there would be more overheads.

you have to put your modem in bridge mode so that it is not doing the PPPOA negatiations..that is why you are unable to connect.  PPPOE i do not think it is going to hurt you enough to notice if anything at all.

From what I heard PPPoE easier to use. PPPoA often differs in some details between the different ISPs. So in worst case the hardcoded PPPoA configuration of ASL is not compatible with the PPPoA of your ISP.
I would recommend to use PPPoE. The overhead should be extremly low.

When the modem is connected to astaro it is in bridge.

Thanks for that mate seems to be running fine using PPPoE, how do i go about binding my static ips to this interface?, A new "Additional address on ethernet interface" add fine but wont enable i get the following error

"You cannot set up an interface of this type on the selected hardware, since it requirs a primary interface type (Standard or VLAN) on the same hardware."
