ASL will not assign IP via DHCP

I'm now in the process of downloading 5.027. I'm hoping this will contain some fix. Dang, ASL V5 have so much problems just by the number of unanswered questions. If this doesn't go well, back to V4 I am. I had much better luck migrating from V3 to V4....it was almost near perfect and all services were functional after the abf restore...even the DHCP worked the first time!

No sense jumping into the same boat(ASL V5) if everyone else's sinking....will post again.

ASL 5 sucks, imo. Now, don't get me wrong I said ASL 5 only. And many of you may already have ASL V5 installed and working correctly, well then lucky you. It's apparent to me that ASL 5 either work  the first time or will not work and will require a good number of hours trying to figure it out.

I've just instaled ASL 5.027 and darn thing still won't assign IP to my external interface.

So, can anyone tell me what was fixed in V4 that was broken in V5?

I've seen how ASL5 looks and is much "prettier" than ASL4. And I wished I had this darn thing working. It's also apparent to me that no one has ran into this kind of problem before and so it could just be me...oh well. But with much frustration and aggrevation just trying to make a simple function earlier versions was able to do without holding your breath and crossing your fingers hoping it would work,  to me is just not worth it.

I'll be reinstalling ASL V4 just so that I can get it going again, I hope. I will also be downloading the first release of ASL 5 and will try it again later in the future...but for now, ASL 4 it is.

I don't mean to offend anyone...it's just my way of releasing my frustrations after many long hours troubleshooting.

Oh, just a side note of some of the issues I ran into...just incase someone else may want to go into ASL5. See below:

a. When importing the abf file from V4, the restore will take sometime...and then it timesout(same as with ASL 5.024). Going back to the webadmin later, it seems like everything is ok, all of my configurations from ASL 4 seems to be there...I don't know why it timesout...perhaps problem there.

b. When installing the license, it says it will take 60 seconds...then it also timesout(same as with ASL 5.024)....maybe another problem there.

c. If you ever try to reset "all" passwords from webadmin for what ever reason you have, for me all passwords was UPCASE...didn't realized until later, go take a 10minute break because it seems like it was taking forever. I was nearly tempted to reinstall again but fortunately, it came back...after a longwhile.

d. It will not assign an IP to my external interface. Only had 1.5 hours of sleep trying to figure this one out.

These could be some issues you face, among other things, if you go from V4 to V5. However, if you don't run into any of them...then, you've got it made. ASL 5 looks great and it contains many new features...I just wished it was working for me. I have not given up on ASL 5 yet...for now, I'm just gonna rest....

ASL is just as good as it can be. Persistent person I am, well, if I can't get it to work on ASL4(it was doing the same thing...wont' assign IP), why stick with ASL 4 when 5 is already available?

I've reinstalled ASL 5.027 and after a couple more of hours tinkering around, I've finally able to get my IP!

Someone had posted, a simillar DHCP issue, which a reply suggested to delete the external interface and readded it. Well, I did that and it seems to have resolved the problem. The reason why I didn't do it in the first place is because of the rules I've already created which is related to it...I didn't want to lose them. But, I've deleted my external interface, rebooted the system, restore my abf file, rebooted again and voila, a success!

Summary:

Migration from ASL 4 to ASL 5 is pretty straight-forward...persistense and talking-to-yourself and posting and reading the forum helps! Thanks ASL!
