installation issue

i am surprised you get that far..ASL 5 will not install on anything smaller than a 6 gig hdd.

Not only that, but the processor is below the minimum spec for 5.x.  Micio:  Astaro runs on an underlying Linux platform but it is NOT Linux -- it's a collection of security applications that each consume processor power and RAM.  I would highly recommend a processor of at least 1Ghz and 256MB of RAM, with 512MB preferred.

there are others that have had issue with the p-2 series of motherboards and ASL.  STF for it i think there was a workaround.  Try disabling APIC and power management.  Also try instlalling ASL without APIC after getting a larger hdd.  ASL will run a large home installation on your setup...[:)]

I forget that is only with ASL 5 got this issue and not with ASL 2, 3 or 4.

Yes but that won't stop it installing, I have it running perfectly fine on P3-850's in a production environments, also at home I have it running on a P3-450 with no issues.

I have run ASL always with my old PII machine with no problems on the installation, this is the second time that the installation hang during it.
I have try to make everything (fdisk and changing HD) but with no good rusult.
I have download ASL 5.015 directly from ftp://ftp.astaro.com/pub/ASL/v5/.........
Is this a wrong version?

It might if you consider the installation base in context.  A Pentium II-350 is a VERY old machine and ASL V5 requires significantly more horsepower than previous versions.  A machine that old can have any number of issues that can affect the firewall -- something flaky or inefficient could tip the installation over the edge.  Let me put it this way:  YES, Astaro will run on weaker machines, but one fly in the ointment can kill everything because there's almost no power left in the system to  compensate for unknown deficiencies in the hardware.  ASL is, after all, a collection of applications -- it's not an operating system that should be expected to perform at the same baseline as two years ago.  As the applications in ASL improve and grow, so will the hardware requirements.  It's inevitable.

this is true as long as high level languages like c are used instead of lower level languages...[:)]  I have more than one p-2 350 running various v4 and v5 configs without issue.  Sure weaker hardware may cause issues..but without trying this software an a weaker system things like the POP3 DOS would not have shown up as they would have remained masked under the higher processing power of newer hardware.
