V5 upgrade problems - HEEEEELLLLLLPPPPPPP

Hi All

Hope that someone can give me a hand here.

Have ASL 4.021 working perfectly, on several different machines. I wanted to start testing the new V5, and here is where it got me....

I upgraded my HOME license key, on the my.astaro.com - all OK.
I then installed the new V5 on the box that used to run 4.021 - all OK.

THEN....I had to upgrade the system with my backup from my 4.021 - this basically rendered the system useless. None of my configured interfaces were available - hence I could only login through the console.

Ok - I then did a reinstall - did put on my upgraded licenses key, before doing any further upgrade or work on the FW, which then after the license had been imported showed me a license picture, that was more or less blank. 
I was not licensed for anything what so ever, and again the FW was rendered completely useless. Again no interfaces were alive after the licese import.

OK - I tried again - maybe I had made some kind of mistake or error - BUT NO grfgmmmgrfffff - the same thing happens again and again and again.

Then I tried requesting a new HOME license, upgrading it to V5, making a completely fresh installation, configuring the FW to my satisfaction etc. etc. - which actually worked fine, and the in the end I did put on my V5 license - AND THEN..... JESUS - the same thing happened again. FW became useless, nothing worked anymore. I am gradually growing more and more bald as I am tearing out my hair. [:S]

SOMEONE give me some info on what could be the problem here - pretty pretty please.

    I obtained a V5 eval license instead of upgrading my existing Home license. That way I could step back if necessary [:)]
    I installed V5 over my exisiting 4.021 and loaded the V5 eval license, then read in my 4.021 config. I couldn't access the ASL after about 5 minutes, so I went through the same reinstall/reload process another two times, just to make sure I wasn't making a mistake. The same problem occured each time. Finally, I re-created a fresh config for the V5 eval, and didn't try to load my old 4.021 backup file. My system is working (although Webadmin runs very slowly). This probably isn't what you wanted to hear, but, you're not alone in the problems you're encountering.

    I am getting even more puzzled.

    Today I got the license part working. I did exactly the same as yesterday - except that I changed my ownership info a little bit.

    Then I got up and running. I have not restored the backup from my 4.021 - but instead configured the V5 fw - which seems to work pretty smooth.

    Now I am starting to wonder how the following can be possible.

    I configured y interfaces, a masquerading rule, enabled the HTTP proxy and the DNS proxy, set the hostname - and notihing more.
    I then tried to do make a PPTP connection out throug the FW, which off course I was unable to - Fine. 
    For the test I made a Packet Filter rule allowing any traffic from the Internal Network access to any service anywhere. To my knowledge I should now be able to access any site on the outside through PPTP - but NO. I was unable to get through. I then tried to drop any traffic from the Internal Network instead of allowing it, disabling the HTTP proxy, diabling the DNS proxy, removing the masquerading rule, and basically trying to render the firewall more or less useless - BUT STILL I AM ABLE TO BROWSE THE INTERNET - WHAT THE F... IS GOING ON HERE.

    I have spent 2 days trying to get it working - sorry to say - I'll stick with ver. V4 for now.

    Hi there,

    Apparently ASL5.001 works fine.
    Here are the problems I experienced when I installed the jammer (3 interfaces - Internal/External/DMZ):
    First I used the same machine with a new  hard drive (I put aside the production disc just in case).
    I uploaded my ASL5 home licence key
    I restored the config from my ASL4.021 and I went to save the webadmin site certificate (displaying the correct info from my 4.021 config) - this was a bad idea because the webadmin console stopped working. While the /etc/hosts was showing the correct host name, the log file was complaining about the host name not matching the machine name in the certificate.
    I reinstalled ASL5.001, uploaded the key, restored from my backup file and I went to Network-Hostname/DynDNS and I saved it (it was showing the same name that my 4.021). The next step was to save the WebAdmin Site Certificate, which worked this time.
    Be careful about the internal interface and IP address during the installation - it must be the same (eth0 - check the MAC address).
    So far so good, except the known things such as portscan which is no longer available, the WebAdmin console displaying the GMT time and the bloody User Authentication Daemon which does not seem to work.
    Quite frankly I have the feeling that I have done a downgrade here - I am going to wait for a week to see if Astaro releases a patch but I am seriously considering  rolling back to 4.021.
    One thing that I was waiting in ASL5 was Squid 2.5 which allows (with a bit of "twicking") https reverse proxying and publishing in order to replace the infameous Microsoft ISA boxes for my clients - this is not possible with ASL4 / Squid 2.4
