No network activity with ASL 4.0

Hello,

I just updated from 3.2.19 to v4 and afterwards no more network connection to the system was possible. Local login worked fine. Since I couldn't detect the problem I reinstalled from scratch with v4.008 - the same problem: installation works fine, system is booting after installation but no connection via the network (neither webadmin nor ping works).

Configuration of my system: 
2 NICs : D-Link DFE-550FX (Sundance Ethernet, 100MBit)
(detected properly)

I tried various address combinations (firewall/admin PC) and as well the regular as the 'classic' kernel. But in all cases I end up with a login on the shell displaying the correct address, a positive link (!) on my switch but no way to connect the system... 
All worked fine with v3.2.

Any ideas out there?

    I think I found the problem - the fibre optics port of my switch did not work properly (the only piece of hardware I did not check prior to my posting).
    Now it is working fine (the installation from scratch) but the reason for the failure during the migration remains unexplained...

    Though the fibre-optics port of my switch was broken it was not the problem. I am still facing the following issue:

    installing ASL 4.008 on a system that ran fine under 3.2.19 (PII 266MHz, 9GB HDD, 256MB RAM, 2 NICs: D-Link DFE-550FX 100MBit) I cannot get any network connection. After the installation the system comes up fine (ok for all but PCMCIA, which is fine) and displays it's IP (192.168.2.100 - I used the standard setting for the installation) but I can neither ping nor https-connect the firewall. I tried it on both interfaces (one after the other, not simultaneously ;-) ), both show a positive link on the switch but no way to connect to it. 

    Has anyone any idea what is wrong?

    Here is some more information from recent re-installs:
    out of about 10 installs and even more reboots I got 2 times a connection to the webadmin. But after changing the IP address (in one case) or just rebooting (in the other) no more pings or web-access were possible. 
    Since I read about problem with the D-Link DFE-580TX I am wondering whether my DFE-550FX (which is sundance, too) might have the same troubles. Is there any Astaro-supported solution to this issue yet (our site's policies forbids me to just replace kernel modules if that would take us out of the Astaro supported configuration).

    Did you try a local login and took a look into the logfiles? If that shows nothing which might be related, I would advise you to call our support team regarding the "astaro supported configuration" and card problems / workarounds. Easiest thing might be to replace your NICs, though.

    Unfortunately the log files did give any hint on the problem - the sundance module loads without errors and afterwards according to the logs all is fine...
    I switched back to 3.2.19 on our firewall since it's operation is vital for our site but I will try to reproduce the error on another box and get in touch with the Astaro staff.
