WLAN detection NoGo.

is there anything in /proc/bus/pccard/drivers ?
if yes, can you see a wlan0 interface when doing an 'ifconfig -a' ?

uh, you got me going there. linux novice as i am. but it pointed me to the fact that i have to do a full install prior seeing anything about a wlan nic... i thought the hardware detection at the beginning of the installation should show the card and didn't do any further... but at this point ifconfig clearly shows nothing soooo i thought twice & tried the installation. (and i rtfm - you should write that somewhere [:)]

BUT near the end of the boot-sequence it states: pcmcia service start -> failed... the same if i start/stop the service from the console. though the kernel-log shows no problem and the wlan-card goes on/off on pcmcia start/stop. tried both adapters and different slots, but the only thing i get is:

on wlan0 (WaveLan hardware prism2 chipset )   ???.???.???.??? / ???.???.???.???

Have the same problem !! - try to set it up as a WLAN-station - you'll se, this will work fine.
Could not figure out how to make the ACCESSPOINT work myself (up to now !!!) - but as soon as i do, I'll let you know !!

...well, on my google searches i found diskussions about different firmwares for intersil chipsets. it seems there exists a firmware-set for the cards to work as access-points, and another set for normal operation.

astaro sounds like that would not be a point (should work with a normal card i.e.) - just confusing. [:(]

btw: won't work as station either.

maybe though its because of the prism2.5 chipset. the firmware for 2 & 2.5 are different. so if astaro states 'we support prism2' this would make sense. to bad...

Don’t worry too much about the Prism 2.5 chipset, I’m using it myself and it works fine. As a WLAN-Station – as I mentioned before.
But it took me some time; did not work from the beginning. I tried 1000 things, went through most of the stuff of the forum and finally read a post in a different Linux-forum. Someone had a similar problem getting his WLAN-card to be recognised by his system. The suggestion was to try “ifconfig wlan0 inet  up” – I tried the same and – surprise, surprise – interface came up and is running ever since. Even several restart, reboots and interface stop / start’s did not do any harm to my system.
Did not do any performance test and haven’t applied any rules ore filters up to now, but the interface is passing traffic to my MR314 without any difficulties.

well. ipconfig inet wlan0 (...) brings er, something** up. i can ping this something** (via the asl or the local net) but there is no chance to connect via air. neither as a station or as access point.

whatever it its, it is not showing on the panel in webadmin, and it brings the same effect if i configure the nic as station or access point.

still i may have a '4th nic problem'. well. no offical comment on all this. making me angry. is a bit a problem selling features that don't work. hm.

Can’t understand why your „WLAN-Station“-configuration is not working, mine does. Whenever I configure my card as a WLAN-station, reboot the firewall – comes right up showing “green” and “up” condition in the interface configuration menu.
According your “4th NIC problem” - please check the manual point “5.1.4 Backup” – there is a note telling that by default there are only 3 NIC’s supported. The only way to change this is a “Professional” license – you have to request it.

i know about that 4nics point. it ist a bit boring because the price for a version for 4 or more nics is a bit heavy. especially the use as wlan-ap (if it ever works) should make a difference in licensing - hopefully astaro will think over it...

but anyway: i removed my dmz-nic for this reason, but haven't had any success and moreof haven't got plenty of time for such lego-stuff.

so i gave up. l bought a decent (cheap) ap and work my way with it. already spent enough hours on puzzling with the wlan-stuff. still the ipsec-vpn issues keeps me puzzling though [:(]

Sorry that I could not really help you, I'm stuck at the moment myself. Went over a dozen of different forum's - got some good ideas, some hints as well - now I'm at a point where I could need some help compiling a new "prism2dl" (someone mentioned that there might be a problem with the download of the AP-part of the firmware to the PCMCIA-card). - I'll see how far I'll get.
Keep you informed if I'll ever have some success !!
