2.0 Installation

Re-Downloaded the asl-2.0 ISO, and Burned a new CD, all seems ok.

I have had a similar problem on a few installs but have found it to be that the CD Drive in the machine had a problem with copied CDs. They work fine of an orginal CD but a burnt copy causes it to come up with all the I/O errors. I swapped out the CD Roms and works great as well now.

Hi Guyz, I had a similar problem yesterday and this morning I changed the CD Rom Drive and it doesn't display any error message any more...
BUT still stalls after exit is typed in the (b)ash shell...

You reckon I should DL another ISO and burn it again. Ah ! I burnt it on a 80 min CD maybe that's why... Any can confirm ?

When the install program asks for the user to choose the keyboard layout, if you choose "US-AMERICAN", it displays the (b)ash shell and then stalls after exit... But if you choose another language like germna, french, ... it doesn't display the (b)ash shell command, but goes directly to the page saying that everything will be erased...

Astaro Guyz, you might have to check this closely  [:)]on for us... and US crashes, so...

Been having the same (sort of) problems.  Tried multiple NICs (Intel 10/100etherpro aka 8255, 3com 3c905tx) changing the location in the PCI slots, using different combinations and numbers (2 to 4.)

I have seemingly random success, trying each combination with warm reboots, getting different results.  At times I am able to make it past the (b)ash prompt error, but it then fails to recognize the NICs, a few times ending with odd read errors from hdc.  The furthest I have been able to get was with the german keyboard, but could not get past the "@" symbol problem (ALT64 caused the program to exit to the (b)ash prompt.)  

For kicks, I looked around the file system after being dumped to the (b)ash prompt, and poked around the files, finding /tmp/install.log and install.tmp, which complained of the problems parsing the keymap.

I have /never/ had this much (random) of a problem with a linux distro.  *sigh*  I look forward to overcoming this problems and seeing a possible jewel.

Also, as a suggestion, it might be good to keep older versions of your software available via the web, as it would have been good to test an older version, to see if this is a bug particular to the new release.

Made some (yet again, random) progress with install.  I managed to succeed getting to formatting of drives, but /usr/bin/core.sh:

declare: AN@: syntax error: operand expected (error token is "AN@")

the A has an accent on it, the N has a tilde.
it continues on to complain about hdc.

Lucked out, managed to install it (finally.)  Didn't like that it took luck.  Pooped around with the install, tried to config the other two interfaces and get it up and running, managed to screw up the filtering or something somehow.

gateway has external IP, 172.22.0.1, and 172.22.1.1
evaluation asl box was set up with 172.22.0.11 ip, tried to add 172.22.1.11

was working on box from 172.22.1.23, routed through current gateway.

After setting up second network 172.22.1.11, could not ping 172.22.0.11 from the 172.22.1.x network.  Odd.  Could ping 172.22.0.11 from gateway.  Doubly odd. Will it not accept traffic from 172.22.1.X on the 172.22.0.X interface?  Checked access settings by doing a lynx from gateway (yuck.) Couldn't find anything wrong, as most of the access lists had "any" for the permitted networks.

tried grepping through directories, looking for config info.  Nothing that seemed to make any difference.  Tried to re-install.  Failed miserably.  Back to square one.

Small note to folks:  when dropped to the bash, you can re-invoke the install by calling core.sh, if you get sick of rebooting.

Hey, so I finally found what I wanted...
When running the install, just choose the French or German keyboard layout to make it work normally, then after the system restarts, login to the station using the root and type loadkeys /usr/share/us.map

This will load the US keyboard layout without error... And that is it...

Dunno why it loads it correctly now and not during install...  [:O]

The funny thing about it is that it /would/ work sometimes (for me, at least).

I'm going on the assumption that there are some flipped bits in the iso cd image, and that, while reading the disc, the cd-drive can, at times, compensate (ECC) for the errors on the disc, and at times cannot, depending on how fast the disc is spinning, maybe?  Or, seeing as some people burnt the disc a second time and it worked, maybe it depends on the CDR/CDR software, and compensation for the errors there?

That's the only thing I can think of.
