Why is it that this never worked?

I mean I have to do all the steps for like 4 or 5 times before it could finally work. Sometimes it doesnt work at all!
Regardless if the password set is short or long or has complex characters.
Has anybody found a workaround for this?
its usually the root password that does not work.
