I totally concur, this board has really helped me on the quite steep learing curve to understand this software, and the hopefully I have helped others.

I’m very mindful that nothing gets "destroyed" during the migration.  But not only that - maintaining the status quo - everyone at Sophos wants the community to grow and become stronger.

Yes the presentation of threads will change, yes all the forum boards will be under one UTM ‘group’, and yes you’ll sign in via the new Single Sign On (Sophos ID).  However that’s really the only visible things that are changing.  A community isn’t a software platform it just needs one.  After that it’s the members, their activity, what they do and how they use it.  The Sophos User Bulletin Board community and its members are very different from the other two, previous, communities.  And just because you don’t see a lot of threads marked as answered doesn’t mean there aren’t a lot of replies or the user never found their answer (it’s quite hard sometimes to get a member to come back and say ‘thanks that worked’ and click the ‘mark solution’ button).

It’s still your community, your posts, your ideas, your comments.  The goal, in case it’s unclear to anyone, is to unify the three existing boards (SophosTalk and SophosFreeTalk have been migrated) and provide a clear and central place to ask questions and share your knowledge and experience.  It’s not very good to have a user post a question on one board, only to say ‘wrong place, go register over there’.  Plus maintaining three systems isn’t ideal.

The benefits are:

• Only one password to remember for the community, opening tickets, downloading software from MySophos, and logging into the partner portal.  Potentially more things in the future.
  
• If a new user posts to the wrong group/forum it’s simple for a moderator to move it to the correct place for the best answer and the user doesn’t need to re-register and post again.
  
• Searching the community finds articles and PDF documentation at the same time (this is the basic triangle of support information (Not strict but: PDF is for how it works, article for errors, glitches, or gotchas, and posts for ‘I’m stuck’).
  
• It’s mobile responsive, including all the articles in the knowledge base so you can get information on your phone when away from your desk – basically platform neutral.
  
• Any problems will be alerted through the product groups so the chances of missing something important is reduced and you don’t have to zig-zag about to make sure you know what’s going on.
  
• If the community needs updating or changing (driven by your feedback on features or bugs (hey, it’s software let’s be honest)) it can be added to one system and everyone benefits.
  

How do you provide the spirit of open source?  Well to get things going:

• You're free to post any Sophos/IT security-related questions, comments, suggestions.  Being constructive is always better received, but apart from vile posts it’s uncensored (that’s the abridged Terms and Conditions right there [;)]).
  
• We have released it as BETA so we’re on the hunt for your impressions, passing suggestions, and requests (must dos).  Don’t see it as done and not up for discussion, or that any feedback (that gets a lot of likes) won’t be acted on.
  
• All moderators currently on here will be mods on the new system.  We are not taking control.
  
• What else?  Ideas welcome.
  

Ruckus, are you working with Sherwin P on this?  I've already shared some thoughts with him on things that need to be preserved.

I'm still miffed that two (that I know of) of the posts that I maintain here were copied to the KnowledgeBase without attributing authorship to me.  I hope this rather bad form is discouraged going forward.

Hi Bob,

I am overall as he's my boss.  I haven't received any particular items indirectly from you about what must be preserved.  I would be very interested though as I was writing some of the requirements earlier today - but they aren't completed so nothing fixed at the moment.  I'll chase up with Sherwin, but feel free to forward them, and anything else, directly to me asap.

I apologise for any missing attributions.  You'll know we have emailed each other before and when you pointed out missing credit I immediately added it.  Searching the KB for your attribution I find six articles...
