Sophos anti virus tool won't install - says it's already installed

Hello I don't know where to post this. Sophos' website directs me here and it says they don't have support for free tools by e-mail.

On the Sophos website there is a virus check tool "Sophos Virus Removal Tool.exe". I downloaded it but it won't install on my computer because it says "another version of this product is already installed." It is the correct tool, I have checked the digital signature. I don't have anything on my computer from Sophos so I don't know why it won't install.

I'm using Windows 7 x64. A screenshot of the error message is attached. If you have any ideas please let me know. Thanks

    It sounds like the installer is detecting a pre-existing registry key or possibly some other file it believes belongs to an version of itself or another Sophos Endpoint solution. Are you sure you have never installed anything Sophos Endpoint-wise on this sytem?

    First place I would check is in the registry. All products that are installed write their product GUID into the Uninstall key of the Windows registry (always make a backup of the registry before playing with it).

    The location would be (On a 64-bit system)

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\

    In this location you will see a whole list of product GUIDs for installed software, one of these is likely being recognised by the Sophos installer.

    If you select each key you will see the value DisplayName as a value, I would just highlight each in turn until I found something that said 'Sophos' and then delete it.

    Alternatively, I am sure the installer would leave a log file somewhere under the %TEMP% directory which we can review if you share...
