I am still looking for detailed documentation.
I have lots of questions, and still have not found any official documentation from Sophos that describes anything to help me to understand UTM behavior in IN SUFFICIENT DETAIL for many many cases. The WebAdmin help files parrot the UTM user manual.
The Sophos knowledgebase is sometimes helpful, more often not.
I appreciate the help that this forum community offers, especially certain members who seem to have near-encyclopedic knowledge of the Sophos UTM and its behavior.
Still, I wish there was another level of documentation that dives deeper into each UTM feature, its functionality, and UTM behavior so that I can answer my own questions without feeling compelled to bring them to this forum.
Any guidance to find detailed documentation would be appreciated. Am I wrong in assuming that it exists? How does Sophos train its technical support engineers? It is hard to imagine that they pester the developers for every detailed question that comes up.

William, are partners allowed to give their customers access to any of that?
Thanks,

Ask the questions and turn the forum into the detailed public documentation.
That's fine ... and that is what I have been forced to do, however:
* Forum members do not always answer the question.
* Sometimes they do not answer in a sufficiently timely manner to help the original poster with their immediate problem.
* Sometimes the answers are incomplete or incorrect.
* The forum has no formal style guide or format for the answers.
* Terminology varies wildly.
* Even if the correct answer is somewhere in the forum, the most careful search may fail to locate it.
* No person or organization "owns" the documentation in the forum, in order to take responsibility for organizing the presentation of the answers into a useable form.
I am surprised at the "superficiality" of the Sophos UTM documentation that is made available to its purchasers, especially considering that the UTM is sold to customers who must protect their priceless corporate data, often in operational situations that require near-100% uptime. Frankly, the level of detail in the Sophos UTM documentation does not match what I would have expected from a highly technical security product, nor what I have experienced with similar products over a career that spans decades.
That said, I wish to extend my appreciation to the members of this forum for their willingness to contribute their experience and expertise so that others may learn and begin to contribute. I hope that over time, I will be able to help others as I learn more along the journey.

Sophos is a partner modeled company. They offer detailed training to their partners and make it extremely easy for their partners to gain real world knowledge of the product as well. Speaking as a partner myself while i am willing to help with some things here my living is partially dependent on my supporting clients with their issues. The balance i have to walk is how much of my knowledge that my clients pay me for am i willing to divulge here. If UTM was a consumer product then documentation most likely would be "better" but since Sophos is partner focused the best documentation is the partners themselves.
