yet another newbie who can't get started

I successfully installed Sophos UTM latest build, received the page that told me what the ip address was:  192.168.2.100:4444/

However, my networking capacity is limited.  I don't know how to access the GUI with a subnet different than my network.  Three PC's and Sophos device are plugged into a switch on my network.  I have a Linksys router hooked to the switch.  I tried to change the ip address of one of the PC's to 192.168.2.10 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0 and a default gateway of 192.168.1.1 

This does not work.  I need to know what settings to have on one of the PC's to access that GUI on the Sophos device.  I go to network settings>network adapter>properties>internet protocol v4.  Thanks for any help to get me started...

    That cannot work.

    If the network is 192.168.2.0/255.255.255.0, then the gateway must be in that network; e.g. 192.168.2.1

    Thanks Barry for your response.  Well, not sure what others have done.  I mean, my network is 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.250 (or thereabouts).  Not sure why Sophos defaults to 192.168.2.100.  There has to be a way for me to connect to the UTM device via one of my PC's.  Anyone else have any suggestions.  Can I connect a PC directly to the device?  If so, what would be my pv4 protocol settings?  (IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, DNS server?)

    this should've been set during the install.
    you can directly connect a PC, give that PC a static address in the 192.18.2.1~192.18.2.254 range, but not the same IP as the UTM(192.18.2.100).
    from there you can run the config wizard and/or change the IP on the LAN-interface to match your network(192.18.1.0 with mask 255.255.255.0)

    1. Directly connect a PC to the UTM. Give the PC, a static address in the same subnet as the UTM. Once you access the Sophos, change the LAN address to something within your existing network.

    2. Run the setup again on the UTM. This time set the address to one within the same subnet as your existing network

    Option 1 is way easier.

    I like Option 2 better, especially since you are just starting out.

    Why? When I recently tried a "Backup/Restore without unique site data", my UTM reverted back to its original IP address. You might as well start your UTM on the correct subnet at the start to avoid Option #1 someday in the future if you decide you need a backup/restore-type reset.
