Eta for vpn on win 8 fix

Any word on when I can start using VPN again on my laptop?

    William:  OpenVPN on Windows 8.x is not working 100% -- primarily the routes are not created after the connection is established... known issue to Sophos and OpenVPN Devs (I've submitted case info, etc. to Sophos regarding this).  There is a workaround; simply opening the Network Interfaces control panel applet on Windows, prior to establishing the SSL connection, will "refresh" the adapters and allow the VPN to create routes.  It sounds completely weird as a workaround, but it does work.

    I've not been told of any ETA as to a permanent fix; I suspect they are waiting on the OpenVPN folks to fix the Windows VPN Adapter driver.

    i'm curious have you tried installing AND then executing the openvpn program in windows 7 compatibility mode?  Also have you tried it with UAC off in windows 8?

    Yes in 8.1, I didn't check in 8.0

    Confirmed that it does work however. My users will go bananas if they have to do this before hand and it will definitely spike the helpdesk calls


    Does it have a ticket number or something i can check in on?

    Another workaround is to use non-Sophos SSL VPN client and import config manually.

    I've sucessfully tried it with OpenVPN SSL native and Securepoint OpenVPN (currently using on my 8.1 laptop) clients.

    I don't want a workaround I want to send my users to the users portal and have it work.

    Personally after using it for about 3 months its actually pretty nice. 

    but from an astaro point of view do you think there will be more or less version of windows 8 moving forward

    also windows 9 is beta at the end of this month so................ seems like a good time for them to get with the program.

    I don't know if it is related but ssl vpn from sophos works fine for me on 8.1 64 bit. Routes are working fine as well
