Eta for vpn on win 8 fix

Any word on when I can start using VPN again on my laptop?

    I don't like win 8 because it's new..i don't like win 8(and the majority of the market doesn't either) because of the insane dual zone interface.

    I'm finding the same as alexxdavid, Works just fine under 8.1 64bit.

    Windows 8 threw me quite a few curveballs when I started using it (pre-rc beta release thanks to TechNet). Have 8.1 Pro on my laptop and desktop now and while it was a learning curve (how many times was I was tempted to frisbee the laptop?) I've learned to appreciate it. And as we will eventually lose the ability to purchase workstations with Windows 7 pre-installed, IT has to lead the way. [:)]

    I also have it working on 8.1, but I have a few customers where it "breaks", and there I use the Securepoint Client...although it somestimes does not work either :-/

    i'm curious have you tried installing AND then executing the openvpn program in windows 7 compatibility mode?  Also have you tried it with UAC off in windows 8?


    Figured I'd chime back in.  Yes, tried with Compat. mode, UAC Off, etc. etc.  It's a known bug, Sophos is aware of it, as is the OpenVPN Open Source group... on some Windows 8 systems, it works fine, no rhyme or reason.  Has to do with issues in the SSL VPN "Network Adapter" driver -- OpenVPN folks are saying they are having to make major changes to make it work 100% as I understand it... but I'm with you guys, Windows 8 has been out quite a while, they really need to fix this, as I'm sure the same issue will exist in Windows 9 when it is released.

    That's why i build machines.  For my clients Win7 is pre-installed.  Just because the BIG boys don't preinstall doesn't mean we have to use that insane interface.  There's a reason why Win9 is coming out so fast..[[:)]]

    Building machines is great. But when you have 30+ to deploy at a time and over a hundred in play at any one time, building is no longer an option so you go with what the vendors have in stock and carefully choose models with Win7 pre-installed if they can be found.

    This is not a repeat of the Dos-> win desktop mixed mode doomsday  this time new things really are scary.

    With that said rather than get into a dissusion about why windows 8 is or is not great can we try to figure out an answer the orginal question


    Is there a ticket number I can call and ask about or some sort of eta for this, I keep thinking its going to get fixed in an update (9.2 was my guess) but nada

    okay so windows 10 is on its way, 

    Think they are going to spend anytime fixing this issue,

    Also i've never seen a actual ticket number or bug number for this issue

    There is a real bug "number" for this issue, and yes they are working on it.  The ball is largely in OpenVPN's court.
