Why are the INTEL NICs considered the best? And would this one suffice?

The motherboard build in NICs that I am looking at are the chepo Marvell chipset.
So I am thinking of purchasing a PCI-E NIC...however if I purchase this NIC will one 1 NIC suffice since it's dual port or Do I have to  purchase two separate NICS?

    One thing to note, if you're running your UTM as a VM on ESX 4.x or older, Broadcom NICs are bad mojo. 5.0 and newer are much better supported.

    I'm with Barry on Intel... it's worth the extra few bucks to get an Intel NIC over a Realtek or Broadcom.

    Somebody better tell that to IBM then as they've been using Broadcom on their servers as far back as 2003. Support in linux (and windows) has been solid and I've run a few of the older models on ESX 3.x & 4.x with no NIC issues whatsoever. You'd think if the Broadcom support was spotty, IBM would've switched to Intel exclusively.
