Any difference between running in VM or Physical Machine for version 9?

I am currently running the Version 9 Home Edition in a VMware Workstation on my laptop.
THe laptop is a core2duo with 4 Gigs of ram with 3.66 dedicated to the VM.
Will I notice any difference if I install it on cold metal?

Also is Core2Duo with let say 3.5 Gigs of Ram sufficient for a Home Connection with 50Mbit connection speed?

    You should see some performance improvement running on bare metal as opposed to in VMware Workstation (no OS overhead).

    Big thing to watch for is whether or not your hardware is supported by the UTM. Workstation depends on it's host to handle drivers (presenting the virtual hardware to the guest) whereas the UTM has to have drivers for the specific hardware you own.

    Also, as this is a laptop, what interfaces did you plan to use? WiFi is not supported and limited USB NIC support is only available in the beta.

    I noticed a lot of performance improvements..
    Installed a VM with 6 GB of RAM, and 2x2.2 GhZ CPU on a 7200 rpm disk,

    my bare-metal install on a 2x2,1 ghz CPU, on 4 GB of RAM on a 7200 RPM disk, ran much smoother, bettter troughput(difference were 10~15 Mbit against 25~30 mbit, same configuration, only differences in hardware)

    Yes.
    (My Atom can do about 50mbits, with the IPS being the CPU bottleneck)

    Is that 50Mbits with IPS on or off?
    I want to keep my IPS on.

    50 with IPS on.

    But note the Atom CPU is MUCH slower than almost anything else.
    My point was that if my Atom can do it, then so can your CPU.

    When we switched from a netgear router to utm running as a guest on hyper-v2012, there was no noticeable reduction in speed or latency. The difference you are experiencing must be for some specific reason.

    Just to be clear, we are still using the netgear router, although it has been deprecated to being only an AP, where as before, it was the gateway router also.
