BTW, Intel makes some 17watt i3 processors.

They'll be really hard to find retail, but sites like logicsupply specialize in fanless and embedded systems, etc., and may have them. I got my MSI board from them.

My WAN link is only 12 Mbps.  It sits at 4-5 Mbps when streaming.

I think the big thing for me will be all the extra services.  I use web filtering, IPS, ftp filtering, DNS, SSL VPN occasionally.

My current system handles it 80% of the time.  It is an older P4 with 4 GB of RAM.

I am going to take a look at that website you linked.

Do you know what the hardware appliances are, the lower end ones?  I believe the numbers are the 200?  or 210?

Well Im trying to stay low budget ($200 usd full system). Here are my specs i need to meet.

I'm currently on a 30Mb/3Mb cable connection but have room to expand so I wanna build for at least a 60Mb/10Mb connection. possibly turn on a few more filters/change some stuff.

Currently using 3-4 PC's wired some downloading/streaming content and others playing games. At any time there can be 5-8 wireless devices connected as well (I just use a wireless access point connected into my wired hub).


sadly my current system consists of an old amd single core @ 1.5ghz, 768mb ddr2 ram, 120gb hd. and even though it falls quite below minimum specs it still handles what i run pretty well other than the random lockups I encounter (which could either be hardware failure or just maxing something out and the software kinda falls on its face I'm not sure)

12mbps would be no problem for IPS, but I'm not sure how well the http proxy and antivirus would perform with a lot of simultaneous users.

An Atom will be slower than many P4s.

Nonetheless, one of the newer 2GHz+ dual-core Atoms with 4GB should be OK, but you wouldn't have any reserve for future bandwidth upgrades or new Astaro features.

My Atom is working fine for me, but I don't use the http proxy or A/V.
Also, webadmin is a little slow, and some of the reporting features are terribly slow (I'm sure my p2p traffic doesn't help that).

I believe the Astaro 110 and 120 have an Atom CPU now (previously VIA, iirc).

The 220's had a P4, but now have a Intel Core-based CPU, iirc.

However, the 120's and 220's reportedly do not have enough RAM to run v9 with all features enabled, so I wouldn't recommend one right now.
