Interface goes down everyday issue

Hello,

 I have Astaro Security gateway software appliance 8.202. Everyday morning in the Dashboard the Ethernet interface State shows "Up" but Link shows "Error" and hence the interface looks ok but there is no internet connectivity. So i have to reboot the firewall and then interface comes up in both State and Link. So i would like to know if there is a permanent solution to this as rebooting the firewall everyday morning does not look like very feasible option.

Please any help is appreciate and let me know if you need any more information from my side.

    Sorry forgot to mention the Interface is DSL(PPPoE) and checked with the ISP but there is no issue from their side otherwise by just rebooting ASG should not just resolve the issue i suppose. [:)]

    Please help.

    Hi,
    have you investigated the PPPoE log. This log should have a lot of the details.
    Then check the kernel log for entries about your NIC.

    Is your NIC in auto-negotiate mode?

    If there isn't anything obvious in the logs, I would suggest you either change the NIC or your modem or both.

    Yes the NIC is in Auto-Negotiating mode and also HA link monitoring is on. Uplink Balancing is enabled with That Interface set as an active one. "Uplink Monitoring" Globally is Disabled but under Advanced options "Automatic Monitoring" is enabled So it shows that interface as enabled.

    Please let me know if any more information is needed from my side and please provide me any solution for it.

    I went through the PPPoE logs and found absolutely no errors in it at all,i could not paste the log here as it contains all the sensitive information which i am not sure i can share. Also got this update from my colleagues that We have already tried to unplug the cable as well as rebooting the Modem few times but once the Interface enters Error state the firewall no longer recognizes the modem at all whether its on or off. This used to work well in Atasro 7.x but after upgrading to 8.202 this problem started occuring.

    Also when the interface is in Error state the tunnel between two sites is up but only Internet connectivity is not there. So as i mentioned before does the Auto-negotiating as well as HA and uplink monitoring options have anything to do here as Ian and DCC1 suggested, if it is then please let me know what can i change to resolve it.

    Turns out there is a bug in the ASG DHCP query in version 8.200-2 which causes the DHCP request to fail under certain conditions. On the last page of the thread, you'll find a post by da_merlin which solved my problem: give it a try.

    I went through that post and looks like the exact same issue as i am facing related to Astaro 8.202. I have downloaded the script and will run it on the Astaro and see if it solves my issue as well. Hoping for it [:)]

    Hello Fulgan,

    I had ran the script on the Astaro server on last friday and have kept it under observation for atleast 1 week now. Its been 5 successful days without having to reboot the firewall or modem or cable in any way as the interface does not go down. So i am trying not to be too happy too soon but so far i am pretty satisfied with your help and after the observation period done i will get back to you with latest update.

    After successfully keeping the Astaro under close watch after applying the solution suggested in Fulgan's thread i am officially closing this thread as i have not had any issue at all so i suppose the issue was really with the new dhcp engine with Astaro 8.203

    I would like to thank everybody to help me in this issue so far.
