need advice on network configuration

Hi. I've got a network and want to put web filter on it and security. I have imac 2010 21.5 inch, HTC Droid Incredible phone, Samsung galaxy tab 10.1, 2 laptop, one pc running windows 7. The pc is velocity micro mx225 I think. Xbox 360,PS3, and a Wii. 

I'm on Cisco EFT team so ill have a Cisco wifi router as my main router. I'd like to have 2 separate networks. One for gaming so they are dmz type zone and then everything else secured with web filter and so on. Gaming needs to be able to stream media from imac though or windows, but not sure if that's necessary yet. 

I need the web filter with category **** and some others to block. Be nice for normal security stuff like ips, av etc. WEB filter only for wii and ps3 web browser. I don't want anything else touching the gaming. I may want to give the ps3 and the 360 priority for gaming and netflix streaming. 

I'm not sure how to put this type of network together. I would love some suggestions. My connection is business class 12/2 comcast. My budget is free or very cheap because I'm not working and am on disability.

    Hi, just to clarify you want the cisco router to be the gateway device and you want to put the astaro behind it?

    One problem I see is that the wifi connected devices will then bypass the astaro, unless you proxied the traffic to the astaro then astaro sends the traffic out. 

    In a wired setup you could have the astaro in bridge mode behind the cisco and then the astaro could transparently filter the traffic. It would be similiar if you placed a wireless access point behind the astaro in bridge mode.

    To get a clear picture of what you want it might be easiest if you made a simple network diagram, that had the networks and devices with how traffic should be allowed.

    Umm, I forgot that wifi could be an issue. I mean I didn't think of that. Good point. 

    Yes I need the Cisco as gateway. So I guess my network could look like this. 

    Modem to
    Cisco. 
    Imac wired. 
    Everything else wifi. Except the pc can be the asg box if needed. 
    PS3 and xbox 360 can be wired or wifi. 
    Game systems dmz except web filter for ps3 and wii due to them having a www browser. WEB filter and other security on for all other devices. 

    No idea how to do this now that you mentioned the wifi. Doh... [:)]

    What kind of internet connection do you have? Do you have a separate modem or router, or only the Cisco?

    Then you should be able to plug astaro into the modem, and put the router on the LAN, as an AccessPoint only (disable DHCP and don't plug in the WAN port on the router).

    Note Astaro needs to be run on a dedicated computer or VM; you can't run it on your Windows 7 computer.

    Well I need the Cisco as the router as mentioned because I'm on Cisco EFT team. 

    But I can also do vm in that I don't mind.

    Sorry Barry. I just feel neglected. I just mean I like to chat about this stuff and i like it when people want to chat with me. 

    Anyhow I would like to go like this for my network and would like to know 2 things for now. 

    1- if what I'm after is possible 
    2- how to set up Astaro and my network lol. 

    Anyway I want to have the security on the computers and phone but not my game consoles. I want my game consoles dmz so nothing touches them. I want though the bandwidth reporting on the consoles to know how much data they are using and i want only the web filter on the wii and ps3 because they have www browser. 

    The game consoles will be wii, wifi, PS3 and xbox 360 wifi or wired, probably wifi. The laptops wifi and imac wired. Pc will be wired but I can use it as the Astaro with my Cisco as the ai. Also I want to know if doing Astaro in a vm will work ok on the Mac or pc.
