need advice on network configuration

Hi. I've got a network and want to put web filter on it and security. I have imac 2010 21.5 inch, HTC Droid Incredible phone, Samsung galaxy tab 10.1, 2 laptop, one pc running windows 7. The pc is velocity micro mx225 I think. Xbox 360,PS3, and a Wii. 

I'm on Cisco EFT team so ill have a Cisco wifi router as my main router. I'd like to have 2 separate networks. One for gaming so they are dmz type zone and then everything else secured with web filter and so on. Gaming needs to be able to stream media from imac though or windows, but not sure if that's necessary yet. 

I need the web filter with category **** and some others to block. Be nice for normal security stuff like ips, av etc. WEB filter only for wii and ps3 web browser. I don't want anything else touching the gaming. I may want to give the ps3 and the 360 priority for gaming and netflix streaming. 

I'm not sure how to put this type of network together. I would love some suggestions. My connection is business class 12/2 comcast. My budget is free or very cheap because I'm not working and am on disability.

    Well, as I said earlier, you need a computer to put Astaro on.

    I would recommend one with 3 interfaces:
    EXT/WAN
    DMZ
    LAN

    and put the Cisco AP on either the DMZ OR LAN.

    Then, you'd need a switch or AP for the other network (DMZ OR LAN).

    Running Astaro in a VM is probably not a good idea unless you're already running a VM server.

    If my ps3 is dmz can I still get Astaro to web filter it and count the bandwidth? Cus I want web filter only on ps3 and wii and count download and upload amount. Nothing on xbox except counting the down and up. Then everything else has full security etc. 

    Can I do this with Astaro?

    Yes you can, as long as you add the dmz network to the allowed networks list in the Web Proxy.

    1)  Admin Guide, which is also available from within WebAdmin by clicking on the blue button with the questions mark in the upper right portion of the page.

    2)  Support wiki at http://support.astaro.com.

    3)  Tutorial videos at Astaro Videos.  A bit dated, but the majority of information still applies.

    Also, I'd recommend you learn how to draw basic network diagrams. I'm sure you can find plenty of examples here or on the web.

    You can use Visio or Inkscape (free) or Corel or Illustrator or other tools.

    Barry, why are diagrams wanted? Aren't words good enough? I just don't see the point when words should be fine.

    Visualization of a networking scenario is helpful for troubleshooting and get a basic overview. Words can be (mis)interpreted in different ways ;o) 

    It's a common procedure...

    Did you try googling network diagram.  There's only about 8 million examples on the web.  [:)]
