To get back to my last posting': I hope that Astaro's good quality will not suffer by this sell-out. I've not much like Sophos products in the past including the enterprise antivirus which we manually migrated to another vendor's solution. Also the PureMessage AV product for Exchange wasnt very good when I tested it in 2006. I'd like to know what you guys think of this? A while back when Symantec bought Veritas their top product BackupExec became a buggy mess. They took till Version 2010 until they could deliver an almost bug free Version now 5 years later, at least for all *my* installations. How good is the reputation of sophos in other IT departments? Astaro has had a good rep at least here.
i investigated the situation and found out that an overambitious moderator out of our US office has deleted the thread, desbite my rule to never delete anything here, despite spam.
He only wanted the best for the company. We had an internal communication embargo to not announce something before 9am this morning, and he wanted to stick to that.
Please be assured that we took very deep look at Sophos and the future of the company. Astaro will continue to execute the planed roadmap with the addition of beeing able to use the great technology sophos possesses. I also think that comparing something you tested 5 years ago might be a bit unfair, as things change and improve quickly.
Because it's important I will add also a comment on it: it was and will never be our philosophy to delete postings on our UBB (despite spam), and all of you who discussed with us ASL 5.0 and ASG 7.0 know what I mean...
Let me also add that the existing management team as well as all the people you know from that forum will be on-board and run Astaro within Sophos.
As a nice anecdote (and because sometimes people think we don't follow the board): yesterday evening we monitored together the UBB, especially the now deleted thread about the rumors, and had some fun wondering who will post the next rumor ;-)
Please excuse the incident and join us for even more successful security products within Sophos
Wow, this sucks. My recent experience with Sophos support (or the lack thereof) makes me cringe. I've never seen a buyout where the bought entity is as good as, or gets better, because of the buyout. They usually close the product line or let it stagnate.
Have to say that our recent experience with Sophos is also not very good. Both the AV and Puremail products. Our experience is that there are far better solutions available. Hopeful that the merger won't make things worse.
