Fiber Connection Upload Speeds Problem

Hi everyone, 
We have a 10Mbps up and down dedicated fiber. I noticed on the computers I get full 9Mbps for download speed but only 3.6Mbps max upload. So talked to provider and then I tested with my laptop to their switch(media convertor). When my laptop was set to auto negotiation I got bad results. Once I put my NIC on laptop to 10 full duplex got 9 and 9 for up and down. 

So then I connected my Astaro directly to media converter from fiber provider and set astaro nic to 10 full duplex instead of auto. Same bad results down was fine but upload was only 3 something. 

The weird thing is on Daily reports from astaro I saw the upload speed max to 6 or 7Mbps. So the question is why when I connected astaro 10 full duplex my lan computers still can`t get higher uploads.

    I have these:
    So I disabled the Qos on WAN now but I am still taking an upload hit. 
    I think it`s because of the web filtering again.

    interesting to read all the theoretical question about the upload speed limits.

    Let me ask a different question:
    "What kind of your network traffic is really creating big upload speed requirements?"

    We have about 100 virtual servers. We have them all VOIP for 100 users, RDS services, VPN site to site, so lots of files over that as well, Soon we`ll have data backup replication over WAN as well to our other site etc. We also have Direct Access.

    I don't know what hardware is inside of an ASG 320, yet I'd hate to say it, but I think the ASG 320 is choking. Be it the CPU or the NICs or possibly both.

    Theory #1 Bandwidth vs. Packets. Your "bandwidth" is great, ability to process / route *** amount of packets, not so much i.e. speed vs. load.

    IMHO, When Astaro estimates the amount of declared users, it is based on normal web and e-mail usage. Is this how you estimated your purchase?

    In my experience, servers are not basic users, they require alot more. VOIP is low bandwidth but requires extremely low latency. RDS takes more than standard bandwidth and low latency to work well. VPN site to site drastically requires more CPU power to process the encryption while routing packets.

    And as many have said, drop QOS, Proxies, AV scanning, Anti-Spam etc etc etc on top of that and "Bottleneck".

    I would test it without any proxies, QOS, AV, Anti-SPAM, VPN, packet filter, IDS/IPS, NADA! Basic routing. See how the 320 works and slowly add features as needed.

    Incorrect. The ASG 320 can easily handle 100 Users with the kind of services your running...whats your hardware graphs looking like? I highly doubt this is the problem..

    it's not a user issue it's a packet moving issue with the number of vm's he has behind it.

    Gert, we were having issues with simple things like FTP hosting.
    Turning off Auto QoS made a HUGE difference, you can do it in real time on our system and watch the speed jump.
    (We regularly transfer SQL databases ranging from 1GB to 150GB both up and down.)

    I lie... Damn systems working now.  Just tested Auto QoS and it made a liar of me...  100MB in 17seconds on 40mbit.
    I have had it happen in the past though.

    No I am right.  Sorry for confusion.

    OK, I have a 40mbit fibre link connected to external RED gigabit NIC.
    Auto QoS - Optimizers is set on all items. (NIC hardset to 100mbit FDX).  (ISP recommends to lock speed and duplex and they are right, we get odd drops on auto otherwise).
    Auto QoS speed is set to: 
    Upload/Download 50000/50000
    Limit uplink is un-ticked.

    I have a 100mbit switch connected to DMZ gigabit ethernet NIC
    Auto QoS ON all items.  (NIC hardset to 100mbit FDX).
    Auto QoS speed is set to: 
    Upload/Download 124000/124000
    Limit uplink is un-ticked.

    Uploads from boxes on the 100mbit switch are crippled running about 10% of normal speed.
    (Uploads being traffic to the internet from the firewall/dmz box.)

    I I turn OFF Auto QoS on the DMZ, speeds go back to fast. (Whilst keeping Auto QoS on RED).
    Enable it and they die to 10%

    Are the setting wrong? Bug?
