Video on Demand pixelates with ASG but with Actiontec

I've got FiOS internet and TV. When watching video on demand (VOD) it will pixelate and some times the sound will cut out.
A little background.
I had ASG 8.003 installed on the hardware in my sig. Speed tests show a solid 30Mbits up and down. But I would get pixelation when watching VOD. No other internet activity was going on at the moment. No big down loads or anything like that. I had Verizon send a tech out. He was open minded and didn't just assume it was my ASG causing the pixelation. He tried several things. The last was to switch me back to the Axtiontec rev F router. Pixelation was fixed.
My ASG wasn't running IPS or TCP syn or UDP flood protection. I checked the cards for dropped packets (ifconfig eth0) etc. Showed no dropped packets or other problems.

Has anyone else had things like this happen while watching VOD?

    reinstlal ASL from scratch.  run any-any-allow on the packet filter and make sure the MASQ is setup correctly(which the instlal wizard will do)  You'll have to do the packetfilter modifications after install.  Make sure you turn off everything else....no proxies..no ips...no p2p controls..etc etc etc.

    BTW EXACTLY which nics are you using(full models information please).

    Oh. What NICs do you like for ASG? I've been looking at Intels, but am open to other Mfgs. I don't need Gbit, since none of my switches, etc are Gbit capable. But if I can find a deal on some older good performing NICs I'll do it.


    Intel and Broadcom NICs are normally best.

    Again? I've already done this to a P3 and a P4 machine. The packet filter is wide open going out. The masq is correct. THERE ARE NO OTHER SERVICES RUNNING. I've already said that in just about every post previous to this.

    I'll have to open up the machine, but I know they are Intel brand cards with intel 82557 chips.

    then it's possible ASL doesn't like your hardware...or your FIOS network setup...it's not a generalized ASL problem as i've said before there's more than a few FIOS users that have it working fine.

    Intel NICs based on the 82557 chipset should be fine. I use only Intel NICs at home. From your posts it sound like you have it working of of the P3 box. For testing I would eliminate the MASQD going with only 2 NICs on the ASG. My network is configured this way and HD vod works fine. Once you have it working with two NICs the try the MASQD config. In the hardware config you should only need to either the actiontec in bridge mode or the NIM100, not both. The config I use is: 
    Ethernet from the ONT>ASG>10/100/1000 Network Switch>actiontec>STB's.

    While it is possible that ASL doesn't like my hardware. It would be quite a statistical improbability that it doesn't like ALL 3 of my hardware combinations. The VIA, the P3, and the P4. Thus far, the P3 running IPCop behind the Actiontec is still working without pixelation.

    Oh. And sorry about my previous post. It was rather terse. I was just very frustrated. My apologies.

    My frustration continues as I'm just about ready to just call it quits with a proper firewall and just use the Actiontec. I don't do torrents, so I don't run into the problems with its small NAT table.

    This KILLS me. I've been using ASG since V3 and love the product. But if I can't make it work without possibly buying new hardware, I may just decide it's too much trouble.

    Jimmy, after watching VOD for a bit (and seeing pixelation), take a look at the dashboard section of the ASG.  What is the CPU usage?  Swap usage?
