Video on Demand pixelates with ASG but with Actiontec

I've got FiOS internet and TV. When watching video on demand (VOD) it will pixelate and some times the sound will cut out.
A little background.
I had ASG 8.003 installed on the hardware in my sig. Speed tests show a solid 30Mbits up and down. But I would get pixelation when watching VOD. No other internet activity was going on at the moment. No big down loads or anything like that. I had Verizon send a tech out. He was open minded and didn't just assume it was my ASG causing the pixelation. He tried several things. The last was to switch me back to the Axtiontec rev F router. Pixelation was fixed.
My ASG wasn't running IPS or TCP syn or UDP flood protection. I checked the cards for dropped packets (ifconfig eth0) etc. Showed no dropped packets or other problems.

Has anyone else had things like this happen while watching VOD?

    OK. I built the new machine. It's a P4-1.8GHz, 1GB RAM machine with 3 Intel NICs.
    I ran VOD for a couple of hours last night to test things. For a while, I was running an SD OnDemand show upstairs and an HD OnDemand show downstairs to see if I could make it pixelate. Sure enough it did (total bandwidth 19Mbps). So I shut off the SD one and just kept the HD one (~17Mbps). Still pixelated. It broke up dozens of times during the movie. Mostly just little bits here and there, a band of pixels in random positions about half the screen width. on several occasions it was significant, large portions of the screen. However, in the previous weeks, my wife has been watching VOD a lot, and has noticed absolutely zero pixelation.

    I'll be swapping back to the Actiontec until someone has a solution to why a P4-1.8GHz machine can't pass 17-19Mbps of traffic without problems. I might try another Linux firewall (maybe IpCop) to see of that can do it.
