Video on Demand pixelates with ASG but with Actiontec

I've got FiOS internet and TV. When watching video on demand (VOD) it will pixelate and some times the sound will cut out.
A little background.
I had ASG 8.003 installed on the hardware in my sig. Speed tests show a solid 30Mbits up and down. But I would get pixelation when watching VOD. No other internet activity was going on at the moment. No big down loads or anything like that. I had Verizon send a tech out. He was open minded and didn't just assume it was my ASG causing the pixelation. He tried several things. The last was to switch me back to the Axtiontec rev F router. Pixelation was fixed.
My ASG wasn't running IPS or TCP syn or UDP flood protection. I checked the cards for dropped packets (ifconfig eth0) etc. Showed no dropped packets or other problems.

Has anyone else had things like this happen while watching VOD?

    Also one more thing.Talk to verizon and see if you can get en Ethernet handoff from the ONT>  This slits the data and the video into different feeds and you don't need the actiontech to do it.  then you can go ONT----ASG---network and leave the actiontec for the video side of the house...at least VZ used to allow this...you have always had to ask they do do it by default.

    I have tried both my VIA board in my sig and a PIII-1GHz machine. Neither showed any real CPU utilization. I already have an ethernet handoff. The standard video never passes through the actiontec router anyway. Only VOD goes through the router or ASG. It travels via TCP/IP. If I shut off the Actiontec or ASG I can still watch TV. Only VOD and Program updates travel via IP.

    Sorry to keep beating up this point, but...
    If the processor is not up to the task, why would it not be working harder? Showing higher utilization in the logs.
