Video on Demand pixelates with ASG but with Actiontec

I've got FiOS internet and TV. When watching video on demand (VOD) it will pixelate and some times the sound will cut out.
A little background.
I had ASG 8.003 installed on the hardware in my sig. Speed tests show a solid 30Mbits up and down. But I would get pixelation when watching VOD. No other internet activity was going on at the moment. No big down loads or anything like that. I had Verizon send a tech out. He was open minded and didn't just assume it was my ASG causing the pixelation. He tried several things. The last was to switch me back to the Axtiontec rev F router. Pixelation was fixed.
My ASG wasn't running IPS or TCP syn or UDP flood protection. I checked the cards for dropped packets (ifconfig eth0) etc. Showed no dropped packets or other problems.

Has anyone else had things like this happen while watching VOD?

    not really.  remember it's not just clockspeed it's also the ability to do raw math.  The floating point abilities of any via processor are not up to anything near modern standards.  The integer performance isn't much better.  Try the p-4.  If things still goes nuts then i'll sit corrected.  Make sure you use hardware nics as i noted before.  Do the initial setup allowing all traffic out and leave ips and everything off.  then open up the incoming ports as needed.  Heck try that on the current machine.. turn off everything..allow all outgoing traffic..and open up the incoming ports you need.  If it stops pixelating..then it's your hardware.  You also have to remember that jsut because you have 30 megs of internet traffic the fiber has multiple wavelengths of light..and the VOD is using another wavelength.  if i read things right you have the ASG in front of the fios router.  That means the asg is having to process everything coming at it..which means you are going to be having to move data at line speed(100 megabits most likely).  Either there's a configuration error..your hardware is too weak..or both.  Right now the hardware is most assuredly too weak for reasons i have detailed in earlier posts.  Address that then we can figure out the rest.
