Astaro AP next step?

Hi,

Not being able to use my new toy yet, I went investigating its facilities. My new toy is an Astaro AP 30 in case you are wondering.

I would suggest that the next models have the ability of POE. Or maybe not true POE into the box, but with an external adapter so you can then mount the AP in the best location which isn't necessarily near a power point, especially ceiling  mounts in an office.

Might have to hack an ethernet cable in the mean time or buy a splitter of some sort.
Exercise for next weekend to visit electronics shop.

PS I need a new powersupply anyway, mine came with a funny 2 parallel prong power adapter. I have old 12v supplies, but they are large and have a tendency to fall out of the power point.

    Hi Ian, 

    maybe i do not properly understand you, but the AP 30 fully supports PoE based on 802.3af and is therefore compatible to any PoE Injector, Midspan or Switch. 

    The final package of the AP30 will include a 1-port POE injector instead of the brick power supply.

    Hey, thats the US power supply so the kids don't stick their fingers in the power outlets (easily). Interesting to see that you got that power supply instead of European (don't know what they use in the land down under). They shipped yours from Massachusetts and not Germany?

    I guess we are the beta testers of the new toy like it or not[;)] Can't wait till v8 starts supporting these things. And some documentation in the box would have been nice also but I guess its not printed yet[:P]

    My post was based on what I saw in the box. Nice to know that the AP30 is ahead of the game. I looked at the information site and don't remember any comments about POE.

    Still have to buy an adapter to provide the power over ethernet anyway.

    Neither EU or US or GB plugs are suitable, we use a 2 or 3 pin system where the pins are set at an angle well at least active and neutral are.

    Any hints on a version 8 with wireless release date?

    On closer  inspection of the release pdf I see a little black dot for the AP 30 against POE. my apologies.

    I got my Power adapter for my AP10 from Astaro Today to suit Australia.

    Hi,
    I found an old adapter lying around that was suitable. Fired up 7.506 on the test box and connected it into the v8 general use ASG and bingo I have wireless on V8.
