All i get are unable to connect and server timeouts during setup.

I installed the nice free home edition of astaro and when i get to the point of connecting to the WebAdmin page to setup, my browsers return with nothing but sever timeout messages or unable to connect messages. I tried reinstalling with different a NIC chosen, a different ip address, different computers, different cables, different hubs, different browsers... nothing seems to work. Does anyone have an idea of what the problem is before i decide that the best solution is to throw it out my window?

I appreciate any help.

    What is the ip of the Astaro install?
    What is the ip of the computer you're trying to connect from?
    What is the exact, complete address you're using to connect to the Astaro.
    Are you addressing to port 4444?

    The more exact info you give, the easier it is for folks to take the time to help.

    yeah that would help, sorry i left that out... kind of over looked it in my frustration.

    ipconfig tells me im 192.168.1.101

    my astaro box is set up to 192.168.2.100

    im typing in https://192.168.2.100:4444/

    that should be right.

    i tried resetting my switch and nothing changed. firefox still says "The server at 192.168.2.100 is taking too long to respond."

    the problem is u r ip configuration at client u r client ip should be 
    192.168.2.101 or so 
    not 192.168.1.101

    That is your problem... different logical network even though same physical network.

    You need to give the Astaro box an IP in your existing subnet that does not conflict with anything else, i.e. 192.168.1.20 or something.

    Please either re-install ASTARO and when you get the option to change the ASTARO Internal eth0 IP just set it to the subnet you want i.e. 192.168.1.0/24 and then change the default from 192.168.2.100 to 192.168.1.1,2,3,100 or any IP that you will not use for anything else.

    Or, just change the IP of your machine that wants to connect to the default, i.e. 192.168.2.1,2,3,101,102.

    If your network runs a DHCP server, then change the scope for 192.168.2.0/24 and all your addresses will be changed automatically

    thanks for your information, i will get to work trying that out... I wish my school didnt use DHCP, it makes it harder to learn this networking junk.

    Have you by chance looked at any of the manuals?

    Once you get logged into the Astaro web gui there's a support tab that will allow you to download a comprehensive manual.

    You seem to be in over your head, this is going to be very frustrating for you if you don't rtfm, this is not an easy appliance to work with without some basic networking knowledge.

    Frankly, you shouldn't connect the Astaro box to your network until you understand how to set it up otherwise you're going to create a broadcast storm and dos your network.

    Take the Astaro off your switch and off the network, do as suggested previously and set an ip on your client pc in the same range as the Astaro, connect the client pc to the admin interface of the Astaro with a cable and learn the Astaro before trying to integrate it into the network.
