Root Partition mounted at / is filling up

Can anyone help determine the proper way to purge information from this partition.  I continue to receive a warning "current usage is greater than 85%".

    In your system you will need to check the usage from ssh.

    To check the disk usage:
    df

    Should show the size of all partitions currently in use on your system.

    Also to check that you are using at least a 20GB size HD for your ASG to avoid partition problems.
