i have a small personal network (5 server and 2 pcs), but i have a 6000 email acount from my personal foro and i have more than 500.000 emails per day.. the home license can work?

Hi Loller:  when using a "home license - 10 IPs"... of course assuming under the guise of honesty that one IS indeed just under 10 computers... all those 10 computers (IP addresses) avail of the following services "concurrently" (or all at the same time):

• packet rules
  
• NAT
  
• HTTP proxying
  
• SMTP proxying
  
• intrusion protection (ie: from P2P's, warez, etc)
  
• and of course, my favorite... MONITORING, ACCOUNTING, and REPORTING!
  

That's just to name a few that are enabled in the home edition.  Now when you exceed more than 10 IP's or computers, for example if you're using transparent HTTP proxying (which I love because it lets me monitor my users without intruding on their computers), only 10 computers can browse the internet at the same time, the rest will just get a "squid proxy error" or some other generic accessibility error which simply means the firewall is trying to limit access to only 10 IPs.  Same goes for the rest of the above services.

And to the 6000 account guy a few threads ago... all I can say is:  WHOA! I bet you gotta have a helluva bandwidth and really souped up PC to run your "home license" firewall to cope up with all that concurrent traffic.  [H]

Have you tried running an MTA on that?  [:O]

Maybe buy a small netgear/linksys box and nat the 3 DS's and the TV receiver? 
Or NAT all your wireless. (laptops, DS).

I'm sure there's one around here somewhere but I'd really rather not double-NAT.

Maybe Astaro could just eliminate IPs that are only using the packet filter from the license count.  That would certainly buy me some time.  I only enable web security for the kids' computer.  At least until they figure out how to get around it.  [:)]

A 10 IP address limit is just not realistic.  Too many non-workstation devices are IP/WiFi enabled now.  The number of IP devices on my network is only going to go up, but we'll still just be a household of four.

Not to mention the fact that "hiding" additional devices behind a NAT router is probably a violation of the Home-Use license agreement.

Right. So if you do the math 500,000 / 24 hours is 20833 per hour avrage + 300 users avrage as quoted. I would say that you would easly exceed you 1000 connection limit and if so the mail would back up and just compond the problem.

 exim has a smtp_accept_max=20 connection limit afaik so the iptables connection limit wont be a problem - as long as he uses exim and not just routing mails in and out ...

I'm trying to use my satellite receiver to download a couple things for the first time and I hit 12 IP addresses so it failed.

The Astaro is counting wireless access points, too, which is pretty lame.  So, apparently, the first wireless computer counts as two IP addresses, and for coverage I have three access points, so it could count as 4.

Astaro REALLY needs to address this, especially for ASG-110 users, not just home users.

I wonder if I don't put a default gateway in the access points or other local-only devices if they will ever be counted.  I suppose I could also put them on a separate IP network, and change my laptop to that network should I ever need to administer them.  That might also work.

I need to figure out how to purge the IP address database.

The APs won't get counted if you set them up right.
1. Don't hookup the WAN interfaces on the APs
2. Give the management interfaces a static IP (no DHCP), with no gateway

Here are the commands to reset the license count, but they don't always help.
cc set licensing active_ips []
cc set licensing user_limit_exceeded 0

Regardless, IPs counted drop off after 7 days inactive.

Regarding the Access Points, I have removed the gateway where possible and inserted a bogus IP as a gateway where the AP required something.  I figure as long as it's not giving traffic to the ASG, I'm good to go.

I also think I figured out where the IPs are gleaned from and how to clear them out using sqlite but I'm not sure how much more I should say.  [:)]
I have to wait until the license process updates the table before I know if it actually worked.

They were handed out to active beta testers, in the 7.1 beta process iirc.

This time (7.3beta), they're giving out $ instead.
