Though it's a bug if I'm forced to reboot every daylight savings time change.

I have sent Astaro the new Australian Daylight Savings rules. I was hoping a new beta would be released before the end of daylight savings today so I could test it.

You might want to add some extra memory to your home box, 256mb for 7.104 is a bit light, recommended is 512mb.

256MB may not meet the recommendations but with Firewall (31 rules), HTTP Proxy (not actually doing any caching but lots of content filtering), FTP Proxy, SMTP Proxy, Anti-Virus, Anti-Spam, Anti-Spyware and Remote Access active it sits on 74% RAM and 2% CPU usage. More than adequate for 4 home users.

Astaro is mainly to control my 13 year-old son's Internet access [;)]

I hunted for a while to find ASG for the same reasons as you. With that many rules as you have and the proxies active I am surprised your box doesn't use swap heavily.
I had a 1gb system which should it was only using about 400mb, so in the interests of reduced power I removed some memory, performance went down and swap usage went up significantly. So the memory was restored. This current box has 4 regular users, occasionally 2 laptops, a VoIP phone and linux box and chews through 400-600mb. I use it to beta test, that is why the memory usage is high at the moment, normally under v7.104 is sat at around 400mb.

Memory hardly uses any power (a couple watts a stick) so it's generally not worth removing memory unless your system extremely low power already.

no, I was just trying to make it as low power as I could, but found I really needed more grunt and memory for the time managed proxy and PF functions.

Mind you this new box is extremely fast, I think mainly due to the DDR memory, the CPU is just idling.

According to my UPS the ASG draws 80watts, but when all the other network bits and pieces are added I am only drawing 100watts. Considering there at least 9 other devices powered form the same UPS, I don't believe they split 20w between them.

Getting OT, but...

80w, is that the AMD AM2 in your sig? Too bad Astaro doesn't load the powernow-k8 module and install cpuspeed so that the processor can drop down in frequency/voltage, that would save you 20-30w right there. The 10k SATA drive (Raptor?) you have is also a power monger, replace with a notebook drive or a Western Digital GP series drive and you'll save another 10w. Finally, if you don't need the GigE bandwidth, staying with 100Mbps saves a couple watts per NIC (even if you just set the nic in 100Mbps mode instead of letting it autonegotiate to 1Gbps.

yes, it is the x2 4200. The 10K Raptor isn't that bad, it is similar to some of the other IDE and SATA drives I have. Interestingly I have a number of them and they have different power figures.

The motherboard cool & quiet function has some effect because you can hear the fan speed increase under heavy load, otherwise the fan is just idling over.

This setup appears to have a similar heat load to the previous build with an AMD 754 2800+.

Anyway, I am happy with it and it does an excellent job, better than the little boxes.

No that is the mobo's CPU fan speed controls, not CnQ.

Check /proc/cpuinfo when the system is idle. If CnQ is enabled and working, you will see the change in CPU mHz there.

You can also confirm that it isn't enabled in the Astaro kernel by looking at the /boot/config-2.6.16.43-54.5-default file. Look for CPU_FREQ.

I spoke to early, the drive died this afternoon. I have replaced it with a SATA that draws about 50% of the power.

While the CPU clock speed might not slow the power usage does otherwise the fan would be running flat out all the time.

Besides that the extra power saving with the cpupowernow functions would nice.

Even without CnQ on, power usage will definitely vary depending on CPU load. It will just vary more when CnQ is working. [:)]

So (desperately trying to bring this back on topic) - is daylight savings working for everyone in Australia now?

I wonder if manually updating the tzdata would work for those affected by this problem.

to bring it totally back on thread. My thread in the beta bb on daylight savings has been moved into accepted and the fix will be released in the next v7.2xx beta. Next beta is expected later today or tomorrow AU time.

Peterdeg, I ended up having to restart my ASG from cold, so I didn't get to see whether the next beta would fix the problem. More than likely it will require a restart so I will have to wait until next spring. I don't want to play with the time too much, I end loosing too many logs.
