Recent License Re-count

I have been using ASG7 for the past year(ish), back and forth between this, pfSense and IPCop.
I recently noticed that after coming back (and planning to stay) to ASG and having used it for the past couple of months...the same network is now showing me as maxed out at 10 IPs where before (approx 2 months) I was at 7 - nothing has changed.
ASG, I assume after the last update (non-critical) now counts my printer and Netgear switch.  I was very understanding with the VoIP devices, as they traverse the FW...but the printer and a switch - how is Astaro protecting those devices?
I know this has been tossed around numerous times, I have read the posts.  
Are there any plans to offer something without the Anti-Virus and other protections and just offer a very nice FW solution with a larger IP scale?  I really do appreciate the "deal", but the "deal" really is becoming less attractive to a home user with several children, all using their computers, printers, VoIP, X-Box, yadda, yadda....everything has an IP address now.
I am starting to see some nice competitive BSD solutions in a "box" at a very attractive price point without very few, if any restrictions.  IMHO, Astaro is beginning to say goodbye to the "home" user.  To each their own...that's why it is considered a "free market".  Please correct me with fact if I am wrong.  
I wouldn't mind testing, but I really don't care to Beta AND be required to post results in hopes of capturing an increased license deal without any guarantees.

    The printer and switch will normally be counted if they are using DHCP to get an IP address from Astaro's DHCP server.
    Static IP addressing is the way to go for internal-only devices if you don't want them to be counted.

    Barry, they are statically assigned.  Very few of my devices are dynamic.  The VoIP, the switch, the printer...all static IP.  Is there something I am doing wrong?  BTW, they are not in the dynamic "pool", they are outside that range.

    The problem starts with devices, that want "call home" thru default gateway.

    Okay...now I am with you.  When I said I didn't make any changes, that may not have been completely true.  I did change a rule to allow for NTP for the internal net....not remembering that the switch may want to reach out to NTP.  I never realized that the printer wanted/needed to.  This may very well have caused the "problem".  I can remove that rule, it really wasn't necessary.
    Back to my original post...anyone know of any plans to release a version without all of the additional protection, keeping the fantastic GUI, other features and allowing additional IPs?

    Look at the license counting page, and check the MAC addresses, maybe something else is getting counted... e.g. a laptop with both ethernet and wifi will get counted twice, if you use both.

    The MACs are unique where need be.  Within the "Licensing" tab where "Active IP" addresses are displayed, two of the IP addresses are those that are expired according to the DHCP lease table and are still being counted as "Active".  Is there a way to have the expired leases "flushed" from the table AND is there a way to release an IP from the current "Active" IP address area.  There are times when I may attach a laptop to the system and remove it prior to the lease expiring, then be able to free it for use.
    It would appear that ASG doens't track this very well or I am ignorant with regard to managing the count.
    Are there any decent QRGs or documents that spell any of this information out or is this only available via forum searches?

    Inactive IPs will drop off after 7 days or so.

    There is a way to force a recount, it was mentioned in the lengthy thread about home user IPs, and it may be in the KnowledgeBase as well.
    However, I doubt you really need to do it... if you are only slightly over the 10 IPs, you will get some nagging emails, but there will be no loss of functionality.

    I'd like to thank you for your assitance.  I will watch the Active IP list and report back. I haven't seen any changes thus far. I have searched the forum boards for that "length post" but haven't been able to locate it.  If you or anyone reading would know the link, I'd appreciate the info.
    I'd be very suprised to see nothing more than nagging emails and not reduced functionality. I guess I will have to test those waters sometime in the near future.

    Again, it shouldn't be necessary, unless you are WAY over the limit, in which case this won't help unless you remove some of the machines.
